Hi all,

Had a few of the Canaries as holidays over the years, from November to February.
Just avoiding the coldest of the UK winters.

Not been to Gran Canaria before.

I expect it might be a tad cold to walk the beaches in shorts, so where else to lodge for a week ?

Have put a deposit on a hire car (Fiat Panda £117 for 8 days), so reasonably mobile.

Restaurants, etc.

Thanks

Nicest resort by some considerable way IMO is Puerto de Mogon.

Right down in the south of the island too so there's a fair chance the weather will be a little better there than elsewhere. GC is probably the prettiest island inland of all the Canaries so well worth having a car and exploring.

If you can get a reasonable deal on the Cordial Mogon Playa hotel in the resort then go for it - food and service is above what you'd expect for four stars.

Agree re Cordial Morgan Player , I would also suggest Maspalomas Princess , both with TUI .
Regarding weather , shorts and T shrts , the temp is generally low to mid 20s
The walk along the beach from Maspalomas to Playa del Ingles followed by coffee and lunch is enjoyable , a bit of an eye opener! have to keep an open mind . A car is a good suggestion , there are some great drives in the centre of the island

I always really like the Radisson Blu at Arguineguin

Decent location and a pleasant pool area etc. without having the rabble and noise of a busy town

Also used to stay quite a bit at Salobre Gran Canaria in one of the villas overlooking the golf course which was very pleasant (booked via VillaGranCanaria.com)

Agreed re. location - we've stayed next door in the Apartamentos Cordial Mogan Vale in the past, and it was good family accommodation. Food & entertainment was good enough. We were booked into Cordial Mogan Solaz, but Covid lockdowns interfered with our plans.

Next time we go, we'll definitely hire a car if staying for a week or more. It's a long transfer, so if you're hiring a car for the duration I'd consider airport pickup / drop-off.

We've also stayed in Maspalomas - which was fine - but I'm not sure we'll return. One benefit is a shorter transfer. The accommodation we had was good here as it was separate/spread out apartments.

We go to Puerto de Mogon every year. Lovely place. Stay down in the harbour with either harbour or beach views. Around 110 a night with roof terrace. Saves the 10 minute walk from the hotels mentioned and surrounded by good places to eat.

Another vote for Mogan, classy resort and Radison Blu good 5 star accommodation. A stroll around the harbour is nice day or night but by 10 at night most places are closing up. Nicest resort for a peaceful break.

I thought this was a lovely all inclusive "Labranda Costa Mogán" newly refurbed and parking was easy and free. Mogan can be tricky. I wasn't so keen on Mogan, felt a bit concrete built for holidays but I suppose all the island is. We stayed here for a few days, then went across the middle of the island it was amazing. Billiard smooth hilly inclined roads, perfect for a bike but less so for a C3. The tunnels on the south of the island are amazing.

I definately want to go back but think Mas would be better closer to the airport and better nightlife.
