Just a quick question before I book it. Wish to go to Dubai in March, will be paying in my credit card. Should COVID rear its head and we cannot go (due to having it or flights being stopped), will I be eligible for a refund/alternative flights?
Will be booking directly with Emirates.

TIA.

I doubt it because your flight will still be delivered, it's just that you can't go.

You can buy a travel insurance policy that covers Covid eventualities.

I booked to go in 2020. Emirates cancelled the flights and gave me a refund.

I'd imagine you'd need insurance to cover you for being unable to fly due to catching covid.

If the booked-for flight goes but you don't because you have cancelled, you will not get a refund unless you have a fully flex ticket.

Your travel insurance will cover this - most policies do now, though I imagine as we distance ourselves from covid being the apocalypse, more and more insurers won't agree that having a covidcold warrants not flying?

I'm flying off tomorrow and our policy covers covid cancellation for sure. Not sure how I'd know I had it though, last time it was a minor cold for one day, and I've had a cold since, and I'm not testing any more.

Does the policy cover covid-related cancellation by the airline, the policyholder, or both?

I'd have to look, but generally the airlines HAD to refund last time they cancelled flights.

As I understand it;
- if the airline cancels then they give you a refund.
- if you don’t turn up for your flight the airline doesn’t give you a refund.
- I don’t think there’s currently anything legislation wise stopping you flying if have covid, in the same way there’s nothing stopping you from flying of you had flu (even if it is man flu)

Emirates did have a really flexible approach to covid and rearrangement it that changed at the end of August 2022

Assuming you book direct I think you’ll get their included covid insurance free of charge

Just make sure your own personal insurance covers for full loss due to being unable to fly for contracting covid (and what you’ll need to prove in order to claim)

Just checked my policy . I'm sat in the hotel at Terminal 4, so won't be cancelling anything :-)

I don't get anything for not flying if I choose not to, including if I deem myself Ill. I have to either have a doctor sign off that I cannot fly, or be under "compulsory quarantine ". Just having COVID is no longer enough. Not unless we are told by our government to self isolate again.

I get a refund if the gov declares my destination a no-go zone within 21 days of my departure.

Don't book it with a debit card and use a credit card, with it a CC you have some options.

I went to Dubai last month on Emirates. No checking of my NHS covid pass anywhere. No masks. No testing. Just like the old days before anyone had heard of covid.

There may be something tucked away on Emirates’ website about if you have symptoms you shouldn’t fly, but it struck me that if you were selfish and dozed up on paracetamol you could easily make the trip even if you had it.

Earlier last year we had to move a BA flight because a daughter got covid. Credit card (Amex Plat) travel insurance paid out without blinking.

Sat in usa now, i caught covid in a city, flew somewhere else not knowing, now stuck awaiting negative test. Every airline inside us has credited me despite non changeable/refundable ticket - covid is a big word - they would rather credit you than have another lockdown, so will encourage responsible travel.
