Vienna at Christmas?

as in actual christmas!?
we are going skiing the week prior so will be in the area, looking at 23-27 in vienna city centre.
just wondering whether anyone has done it and whether anything is open really, f&b wise, outside of hotels? very last minute so guessing its a case of beggars not being choosers, but something resembling a festive atmosphere on xmas day itself would be nice. i realise austrians have their main celebration on xmas eve, but googling just tells me about xmas markets and the like. some first hand advice would be very welcome!
i did think of bratislava as a lower cost alternative. went to both cities maybe 18yrs ago, vienna strikes me as a better bet.
