Not 2022, but just looking at booking Christmas at Luosto with them for December 2023. At the best part of £6k for 4 nights for 2A 1C I'm hesitating at the moment......

Will watch this thread with interest

We went there about 12 years ago and I have to say it’s probably the most memorable. holiday we’ve ever had.
Pricey yes but definitely worth it.

I did this last year with my daughter (although in Saariselka) at similar cost. Brilliant time, it's not just the actual Father Christmas visit, it's all the trips and experiences around it. We seen the northern lights, husky rides, sledging etc. Great trip.

Are Canterbury travel still going? We took our daughters to Lapland with them about 22 or 23 years ago - just a day trip. It was fantastic and I'd highly recommend it.

Agree the experiences were great and memorable, sadly the father christmas was very poor, my kids went to him and then afterwards told me, 'he's not the real one is he' when kids who must have been about 7 and 5 are not fooled, it shows how bad he was. In fact years later my daughter told me she was so upset we had spent all that money and he wasn't real and that was why she played up at the time.

The rides in the evening were magical for me, def worth the cost.

We’re going this year, albeit with Tui rather than Canterbury. Yes its expensive but the kids are going to love it (9 & 6) and i’ve always wanted to go somewhere really snowy for Christmas day. Looking forward to it.

Must admit i was hesitant with the price but given the past couple of years i just though fk it, if we dont do it now we’ll never do it

It will be better than any other year as the arrogant Russians won’t be going.Prices may reflect that as well but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that being the case.

I'm going with kids and grandparents. Planning to not tell them until we're about to board the plane in Gatwick (the kids, not the grandparents). Really looking forward to it.

Disappointingly, after much consideration, he’s turned down the opportunity to be “Tricky Dicky” this year and stay at Uni.
Although I understand and support his reasons, I think he’s made a mistake.
When we went, I thought some of the elf’s were really hot and there can’t be much “entertainment” for young, lonely elf’s in the artic circle. Opportunities missed!

We’re going to Saariselka at start of Dec. Our kids won’t know til the last minute either. 8 and 6 so hopefully perfect timing. Booked it ages ago and all of a sudden it’s upon us. Excitement building for us adults.

Just watching for info - planning either next year when oldest will be 7 and youngest 4, or maybe the year after at 8 & 5.

Don't want the oldest to stop believing before we go...

The first time we went was to Saariselka about 20 years ago with Bridge Travel.

We have been 3 times to Levi and booked everything independently.

If you go to www.levi.fi it will give you all the accommodation options etc. Book through the tourist information office and book all your trips when you are there so you can pick and choose and not just have to accept what’s on offer from your tour operators chosen partner.

Just a little bump back up on this - i've convinced myself we're actually going to do it next December - 2024.

Looking at Cantebury Travel they offer either

Luosto / Pyha or Ruka.

Are there are significant difference between the two?

Pricing is about £1k different for some reason, based on what looks like a very similar experience?

Anyone with expertise?!

I can't help with the difference between Luosto / Pyha or Ruka, but we are going to Suomu for 4 nights with Canterbury over Xmas eve, day and boxing day this December.

Luosto was first choice but had sold out by the time we came to book in January 2023 (as had most things over the Xmas dates). Annoyingly Luosto had further availability in May time for some reason but Canterbury refused to let us transfer as only 4 person accommodation was available (we are 3).

Not cheap but I like the fact it's not a commercialised area and that full experiences are included.

We did Luosto with Canterbury Travels many years ago, it was supposed to be a once in a lifetime experience. We liked it so much that we went back a couple of years later.

I have also been skiing at Levi, which I also recommend.

Still not booked...

Still looking at Luosto with Canterbury Travel....

https://www.canterburytravel.com/lapland-holidays/...

Anyone offer recommendations on the differing types of accommodation? I quite fancy a log cabin - but that means not being in the hotel....
Does that mean I have to get togged up to go for Breakfast?!

Or would i prefer to stay in the hotel and stagger down to breakfast in my shorts?!

We're travelling to Suomu with Canterbury next Saturday for 4 days.

The option of a log cabin was taken out of our hands as there are very few available for 3 travellers, so we're in the hotel. From what I've read since, I'm glad it's worked out that way for the reasons you suggest. Whilst it sounds idyllic in theory, the itinerary is so hectic that I think we could do without suiting and booting more than we need to.

What I would say is don't hesitate booking if you've found what you want. Canterbury told me that pre and post Xmas is peak time for booking for the following year, and spaces quickly sell out.

Any chance of an update Sargeant?

How was the trip?

Hotel? Experiences? Was it as good as you'd hoped?

I'm now in full on book it mode but can't decide who to book with, which resort or anything else! It seems it doesn' matter who you choose you can always find a negative experience / review!

Thanks
