Is the science museum going to be suitable for a 2 year old?

Going into the smog for a day so thinking we'll get him up there.

Wondering if the natural history museum would be a better bet.

It depends what he's (and you're...;)) into. There are rockets, planes and cars etc* to ogle at, vs dinosaurs and stuffed animals. I found the NHM a bit dry and dull, but OTOH wanted to read everything in the SM which annoyed everyone else!

*And medical devices!

Thanks Bill.

I am thinking NHM maybe a Bit dry, I am from London and got taken to them a lot as a kid both by parents and school trips, they are a great asset to London.

Other option is the London Transport Museum as he loves anything that moves!

Museum of childhood in Bethnal Green? Old toys.

Brands Museum in Notting Hill?

Transport a good shout.

Bit out in the boonies, Horniman Museum in Forest Hill. Has lots of activity rooms for kids where they can try musical instruments etc. Spent hours there with my daughter when she was that kind of age.

Small zoo in the gardens too.

I’ve taken my 2-3 year a lot over the past couple of years. He much prefers the NHM for the stuffed animals/fluffy dinosaurs.

Worst case, you can nip out of one museum and into the other (although may need to pre-emptively book a free ticket).

My tip would be to get there as soon as it opens, as they are brilliant to wander around when they’re relatively empty. Book a (free) ticket in advance.

ETA: My son loves the LTM, there are quite a lot of things for 2 year olds to do there too (drive a bus/train etc). It’s about £20 entry but you get an annual ticket.

ETA2: If you’re driving down from the North, RAF Hendon isn’t far from the bottom of the M1 and is great for 2 year olds - even if you just pop in for an hour or two (also free admission).

The RAF museum I Hendon is a good shout, but tricky to get to except by car.

If you head downstairs in the Science Museum, there is a kids section. It has a hall of mirrors and a river system with boats that the kids can play with - they even provide waterproof overalls. My kids loved it when they were younger.

If the youngster is into Postman Pat the Postal Museum might be worth a look, you get to ride on the underground mail train.

I'd scrap the museums for a 2 year old.

DLT (sitting at the front) out to Royal Docks. Cable Car over the Thames to Greenwich Peninsula then River Bus back into London..

Prob an outlier however took eldest son to NH museum age 2 who proudly spent most of the visit on hands and knees shouting "im a spider" and is now finishing a PhD in dinosaurs at Imperial college next door

Which we still think is a bit odd

Maybe next time, forgot about the Elizabeth line, this goes to Woolwich so would take that down.
