Avoid Virgin Money.
Beginning of 2020 my flight home was cancelled and the first available seat on an alternative flight was two days later, resulting in two nights' extra accommodation and a delayed return. Not to worry, I thought, I bought the most expensive, maximum cover travel insurance, I'll make a claim. According to the policy wording, they'd pay for the extra hotel nights, additional flight costs, telephone calls, etc and even offered a small per diem for each day of delay.
In the event, though, they paid the per diem amount and just refused to pay the other amounts (accommodation, telephone, etc) detailed in the policy wording. They kept requesting I re-send receipts, cancellation details etc over and over again, and said they were 'investigating' and 'escalating' but never responded each time.
I just gave up chasing in the end, so I ended up just taking the hit. The per diem they paid was of course a fair bit less than the premium I'd paid for the insurance in the first place. So I can't recommend.

I think they must use the same claims handlers (i.e. insurance co) as Nationwide, we had exactly that experience of details being requested time and time again by different names in the same organisation and along the way saying that we had already been paid for the flight refunds by the airline so that was being deducted from the claim so we were due nothing, trouble was we had never claimed for anything to do with flights only for accommodation we had to arrange due to the airline leaving us stranded (this was at the start of the Covid nonsense). Just went through this for a new family annual multi-trip. Ended up with Liverpool Victoria. The rate was in the top ten on the usual comparison sites, but most of the rest of the slots were taken with noname brokers with no discernible history, fronting a re-insurer based in Turkmenistan. I'd rather pay up another £50 for a firm with an office visible on street view.
It covers up to 90 day trips, policy holders can travel separately, has configurable bits for winter sports, diving, cruises etc. Smooth process, though the real test as always will be at claim time.

I'd give it a quick check .. in my experience, annual policies are limited to trips of 31 days or so; single trip policies can be up to a 365 day trip. But, of course, it's whatever your documents say.bigandclever said:

Lots of annual policies give a choice of max trip duration… 30,60 or 90 days in most cases. You are right on single trip though, many can cover up to a year or longer for a single trip. carboy2017 said:

I've literally just done this. "Cover for you" Annual policy included 62 consecutive days away. There is only one other company that comes up with 60+ days when you search on money supermarket. pls let me know any who will do more than 60 days
I paid £280 for ALL world Inc USA. Early 50s high blood pressure and partner with Lupus which adds a chunk.

Double check that. They are st hot on it as don't want expats abusing it. FYI, single trip for us for two months cost £120 MORE than an annual policy! ( same company) . Go figure!?

I found when I searched for annual insurance with extended stay cover there were loads of results claiming they cover extended holidays, , but when you get to their site, it's the usual 31 days.
