Need a specific one for a couple of months travelling over winter.

Mrs is taking her super light weight cabin bag for most of her stuff.

I'm going to take another cabin bag but needs to be lighter than my current one.

Most flights in SE Asia have a low limit on overhead baggage (around 7kg) so plan is she uses hers up to 7KG, and I'll take another bag but pay the £20 or so to upgrade to 15KG and sometimes put it in the hold (liquids). That way we get cheap flights, just two small bags, and can chuck on in hold for sun lotion liquids etc.

I have a good cabin bag but it comes in at 5kg empty!, so that's staying here.

Looking for a reasonable quality bag, max dims for overhead, 2 wheels, handle. I ask on here as browing Amazon tells you nothing about the quality. I don't want crap, but I'm not throwing money away. Happy to spend up to £100

I use IT Luggage which is super lightweight £50: https://itluggage.co.uk/collections/lightweight-ca...

Fine for summer holiday type stuff. They do hard shells as well.

I use Tom Bihn. They don't have wheels, but they do have hidden rucksack straps, which makes then a lot easier to get through crowded airports and the like.

On a flight out of LHR this week a guy sitting in row 1 in club was stuffing his dirty Tesco bag for life into the overhead locker. Must weigh all of 100g empty though so perhaps the jokes on everyone else.

OP, have you considered this 'homeless chic' option hehe

Haha :-) This will be me LHR to BKK and back:

I'm not stingey :-)

But we'll be doing quite a few last second internal flights, I don't want to lug a suitcase everywhere, so I want the option that works best for us in terms of convenience, and, price and capacity ;-)

Prices are all over the shop for the same bag in different colours but it's 2.4kg and has a 30 year warranty (for some bits).

No, just not wasteful.

BC for an over night flight? yes please.
Wasting money on a 2 hour internal flight? no thanks.

It's probably when I can afford to fly long haul BC ;-p

I have the page already for that one open as it seems the best option so far.

If the photo is accurate you are a little bit because you’re flying indirect with Finnair just like me ;-) Is it def the new style seat on that route? Intrigued to try it.

Wheels equal a waste of space. You can get a rucksack that’ll fit as much or as little as you want fitting the measurements for various airlines hand luggage limits and they weigh next to nothing empty. My own one was a cheap and cheerful from Amazon so I wouldn’t recommend that particular one. Not at all what you asked of course but I have an intense hatred of wheelie luggage and much prefer a well designed rucksack.

In South East Asia budget airlines often have a better schedule than full service airline and a lot of full service airlines require stopping over in their hub (I.E. Singapore).

If you want baggage that is light, forget suitcases, get a backpack.

Haha. Yep. Finnair. Best deal I could get business class. Paid in 2021! I postponed twice due to crazy Thai covid restrictions which are now gone. Originally booked for Dec 25th last year but everyone went into covid panic so we are now going Dec 5th to hopefully avoid this winter "panic". Off for two months.

I'll report back re the seats/service. I've never flown direct the BKK. Why go direct when you can pay £20 a pint at Muscat airport?!

I actually want wheels. We have, the last two trips, taken ruck sacks but noticed we rarely, if every carry them on our backs. It also significantly upped the cost of short haul flights which I tend to book very last minute, on a whim. Even on the remotest of islands someone chucks your bags in an tuk tuk / boat / whatever. You rarely carry them Futher than from your drop off point to your room.

I was an out and out back pack users but we are going to try a different approach this year.

( Amusingly I got upgrades to 1st class with Emirates once , Dubai to Cape town. When the check in clerk instructed the porter to take our ruck sacks, the porter looked quizzically at the clerk to which the clerk 'replied', "yes, they are first class", as if the bag guy didn't believe him :-). )

We've got two of these, bought them when they were in a sale at John Lewis and they go with us whenever we are travelling.

I’m doing the same route in late November so if that’s before you I’ll post back. Was originally on the 350 from London to Helsinki as well but the buggers changed the flight times so I’m now on an A320 of some flavour for that leg, never mind hey still get the tier points.

Fair enough re the rucksack vs wheelie. Michele has posted some decent luggage reviews on Turningleftforless in the past, might be worth a look.

Yeah - looked mine up - A321 to Helsinki - hey ho. Didn't expect much more TBH though I'm sure it was a bigger plane last time i checked. They've changed the flight times around 8 times so far. All minor changes.

I actually bought one of those for my lady - I'll have to have another look. I discounted it is too "soft" but I'll take another look!

I’ve been less lucky, massive changes, was flying in the evening from Heathrow now early morning, coming back a day earlier than planned. Never mind, the fare was so cheap I’m not in a position to complain really.

Mine just keep shifting 10 mins here, an hour there. Transport and hotels booked in London so they better not change the outbound!

What deal did you get? I paid £3500 for two , business (regular - the one in the middle) return.
