Agreed to fill in at the last minute for my mates (now-ex) girlfriend and we’re heading to Lloret De Mar on Tuesday.
I don’t know much about the place, a couple of friends I’ve spoken to have said it isn’t great. I was hoping perhaps the PH collective may have some experience in the region and be able to give me a steer for some good places to go and things to do?

I also want to rent a car - any recommendations welcomed. For reference we fly in to Barcalona.

We currently have a football tour of the camp nou and are keeping our eyes open for Barca-Inter tickets.
We like lots of sports, are fairly active, and would like to do more than sit by the pool and order “uno beer”.

I went there a few years back with my son for a cheap October half term break. I feared the worse but it wasn't too bad really.
Tossa del Mar is a short bus ride away and is a nice place to spend an afternoon.
Barcelona isn't too far away as you know, and Girona is also pretty handy.
Nice beach bar at the end of Fennals beach.

Thanks Gareth, noted and we’ll try them all.

Can anybody recommend a reliable car hire company in/around Barcelona please?

Thanks

This. Tossa de Mar is much smaller and nicer I found. Lovely old castle on the water, narrow lanes and white washed buildings (from my foggy memory of about 15 years ago. Hope it hasn't changed much.

In 2018, I hired a car through Alamo and had an Insignia auto which was great for what we needed. No issues or hassle.

Stayed in a villa outside Lloret de Mar. Didn't like Lloret de Mar much, small beach, lots of tourists, tourist rip-off prices.

In general, far from my favourite area of Spain. I drove round the coast but saw most coastal villages from the cliffs as I couldn't park in most of them. We did visit Pals, a medieval village which was quite picturesque.

BEWARE speed cameras. I had two speeders when I came back but I didn't pay them as I had no intention of ever going back.

Unrelated but for future reference, if you ever go back to Barcelona, drive south to Peniscola, it's about 137 miles on the motorway (tolls apply) but it's fantastic and inland from there is Morella, also fabulous.

If you have a car have a ride up to Begur area it's beautiful. Lovely beaches walks along the coastal path etc.

Callela de Pallafrugell is one of our favourites. Begur village is a nice place too.

Girona is lovely as someone stated.

Lots of nice medievil villages. Peratellada naming one.
Plenty of water sports but whether they will be still ongoing not sure.

I am usually there or in the area at least twice a year. I prefer Tossa but Lloret is fine also just a bigger version yes a bit more touristy.
You can take boat trips from Tossa, if the sea is calm then its quite a nice couple of hours on the water.

At this time of year prices might not be too bad the peak summer rush is over. Parking is not free but not crazy expensive.
