Sardinia, things to do/visit/eat
Discussion
We found Sardinia interesting - whilst formally Italian, the north of the island in particular identifies itself strongly as Catalan. Like Sicily it's been invaded and ruled over by many cultures from around the med.
Try hard to get a table at Al Tuguri, Alghero. Small but super restaurant specialising in the seafood caught by the town's fishing fleet.

Not sure if the North will be different, but we were in South Sardinia 2 weeks ago and there was very little to do.
We were 'out of season' which meant most things seemed to have closed. It was a very relaxing holiday, but there wasn't a great deal for us to do.
Likewise. Not been for a few years but I recall it not having much to offer. We were 'out of season' which meant most things seemed to have closed. It was a very relaxing holiday, but there wasn't a great deal for us to do.
Ideal if you want a quiet break.

Looks like you are staying near Alghero.
Stintino is a fishing village near the northwest point of Sardinia. It's worth a trip to for the drive and have lunch by the sea.
The Grotto du Nettuna is also with a visit...an interesting journey there and back by boat!

We are a little further up than that, nearer Castelsardo. Stintino is a fishing village near the northwest point of Sardinia. It's worth a trip to for the drive and have lunch by the sea.

But some good suggestions, thank you
What made it 'interesting'? I have a chequered past with boats

Castelsardo is nice, lovely castle of course, and views.
This is a good restaurant in Alghero near the marina, especially for fish lovers. I seem to recall that it's essential to book, especially at all lunch times.

Stintino is gorgeous – take your swimming trunks. The sea is a wonderful blue and the depth of the sea, even 100 metres offshore, is still only waist height.
The general ambience of the island is fantastic.
The coastal road going down south from Alghero is spectacular.
Alghero is lovely too, great restaurants everywhere, lovely local red wines- which I may have partaken of.
I have a policy of never going back to somewhere (on holiday) I’ve already been - the world is too large and my wallet not full enough for that. For Sardinia I would make an exception. I would love to have seen more of the island.
We were there for the WRC in ’15.

We’re just back from Sardinia, we’d been talking about going for years and so glad we finally got round to visiting this fascinating island.
Started with a few days in San Teodoro, Hotel right on the beach front and a 15 min walk back into town. We spent the days exploring the beaches nearby and and night time in town at the restaurants.
Then down to Cagliari, stayed at the Palazo Doglio, our balcony had amazing views back into the hotel courtyard. Met two guys at the hotel bar who are flying a light aircraft round the world.
Then back up to Olbia with a day trip to La Maddalena.
I have to say everyone we met / encountered were incredibly helpful and friendly and as mentioned above Sardinian wine is particularly good, even to the point that it’s often the only option on the wine list.
We’ll definitely be back, probably combined with a visit to Corsica.
