Have decided to book myself a trip early next year, so will need some travel insurance.

Who have people found to be the best, particularly when having had to make a claim?

Single traveller, 40, minor health conditions I'd need to discuss with them but nothing that should be a barrier to getting cover.

Don't mind paying a bit more for really solid cover/a company that won't piss me about, but not going to just throw money into a hole for the fun of it.

Annual cover is normally not much more than single trip and might be a better choice if you have some requirements above the most basic cover.

That's fair, and it's likely I'll be away more than once, so recommendations on that basis are also welcome.

Cedartree, looks like they're related to AXA.

Seems like the cover etc tied up with what I needed, of course, it's only if you have to make a claim that you get to find out how good they really are, so hopefully I won't need to.

I had to make a claim and it took 9 months to get paid out.
Very well know insurance company and was their top tier cover.
So be careful!,

Well, the trouble is, if people don't relate their experiences to specific insurers, it's remarkably hard to make much of an informed decision beyond what reviews and ratings you can find online, and I have to say I'm fairly dubious of those.

And I needed the insurance, so did the best I could with what information I could find.
