I've driven down this morning from SE England in my old boxster and have just booked into a hotel in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland. Around 1100km in one hit - and I don't reccommend it, but had nowhere booked so kept pushing on till it got dark.

I am a 2.5 hour drive from the Stelvio Pass and will be heading there tomorrow. I have a flexible amout of time down here before I need to head back - perhaps 10 days max till I get bored.

After that, I was thinking Lake Garda/Verona/day trip to Venice/Ferrari museum/Portofino/over to Monaco then back to the UK - although not necessarily in that order, I need to sit down and plan it.

Any other suggestions of must-dos most welcome - or great places to stay?

I finished up my work notice period a week last Friday and this is a solo trip I had been meaning to do for years but never got around to it.

Observations so far - Switizerland is bloody expensive. Around 20% more, or there abouts, for petrol compared to filling up in France.

Look forward to any suggestions and I will post some updates and pictures as I go along.

Thanks for that suggestion Giulia Jon. I am a big Alfa fan - there's a Swiss registered 4c in the car park here in Alfa red and they still look jaw dropping to me. Will get a picture tomorrow.

I was behind a Giulia quadrifoglio through some of the Swiss tunnels this evening - he was sticking to the speed limits, and still sounded incredible.

I had never heard of that but a quick google and it looks well worth a trip. Thanks for flagging it up - and definitely a stop on the way back up north.

If you're going to the Ferrari museum, then a short drive is the Lamborghini museum, although it seems you might have to reserve a spot now (and pay entrance). Last time I went was about 15 years ago, it was free and we were the only people in there. Unfortunately the oldest of the lot in the area, Maserati, don't have any museum or visitors attractions .

There is a Maserati museum on the outskirts of Modena at a Dairy farm ,it's an unofficial one .

Google "Panini Maserati collection "

When I went there was no fee ,but now you have to pre book .
There is also a fee for Lamborghini , there is 2 museums , the Ferruccio musem is nearer Bologna than Sant Agata .

You are unlikely to be able to go to more than 3 of these in 1 day .

There is also 2 Ferrari museums , Maranello and Modena ,by the railway .......and Pagani out of town .
List is endless , almost .

The remains of the Bertone Collection is now housed at the Volandia museum just beside Malpensa Airport in Milan. (I have been meaning to go for a while!)

If you visit the Alfa museum (which is very good) it would be a breeze to take this one in as well.

If your heading back via Monaco do the Route Napoleon on the way back. I did about 3 weeks ago and enjoyed more than any of the mountain passes I have done. We did it on a Sunday and only got held up 3 times in a whole day of driving.

See Harry Garage video he has done it multiple times over the year.

100% agreed, along with lunch or a stroll in Riquewhir.

Stelvio Pass is just above Lake Garda.

Thanks for all these suggestions - they really are appreciated. Some good car stuff to visit and I remember the Route Napoleon from Harry's video. I've done the south of France to Calais in one day-ish before and not fun - following that route should make it more memorable.

In Lake Garda now for two days to have a bit of a rest. I have seen minus 1 to +24 today. In the end, I bottled the snowy stuff and took a more leisurely trip through Switzerland - some absolutely stunning scenery - and plenty of tunnels to get into Italy.

When I was in Switzerland I bumped into some other PHers. I didn't catch their usernames but they said they were regulars in NP&E.
