Hi everyone,

2024 is going to be a big year for us as my son (autistic, with statement etc.) is going to be moving to secondary school.

We are not holidaymakers, pretty much never go away and also have very little disposable cash but I am thinking of taking him to New York in the summer hols before it all kicks off in Sept.

This mind sound stupid but he’s likely to struggle with the transition and I really want a memory of something incredible to hopefully stay with him - also for him to feel proud ‘he did it’ to show him change / the unknown can be exciting too (we work hard on this 24x7).

I have zero experience of booking holidays so beyond blind Googling I thought I’d ask you guys!

Things:

- Ideally we would fly from Birmingham but Heathrow is fine.

- We will probs have to travel business class - not really through seeking ‘lux’ but via necessity as my son will need a little more space to stretch out/fidget without disturbing others

- We will want to book on a flex rate, this is a long time off and a lot could change and we can’t risk losing the money

- My wife and I are vaccinated. He won’t be.

- I’m entirely happy to book package or for now just focus on flights, but 2024 dates don’t even seem available yet, is there a trick to this?

Thanks in advance,
James

You won’t find flights until a year out I think. Worth bearing in mind it’s very hot there in summer, can be uncomfortable as it’s a place you do a lot of walking. Could you do Easter instead (appreciate that’s not the same in terms of providing memories before starting secondary school..) I wouldn’t rule out premium economy flights as business can be pretty expensive.
