I've got a sailing trip around the Cycladies booked for the end of next May, leaving from Lavrion. It's a pretty novice crew, including a 3yr old, so we won't be doing regular 10hr sailing days. More likely popping around the corner to an anchorage for lunch, then on to another for the evening. Probably alternating between at anchor and alongside each night.

Where we can, we'll eat in the evening in a taverna, but would be lovely to have a few BBQs ashore on the beach when the opportunity presents itself. I'm told that BBQs aren't really a 'thing' in Greece; for anyone who has some recent experience
(It's about 10yrs since I was last there), is it possible to get portable BBQs, probably from Lavrion before we leave rather than relying on the islands?

Also, any good suggestions for lunches afloat? Other than the usual salad or sandwiches.

We usually have a mess of tapas style food to pick at for lunch when we're sailing like fresh bread, cured meat, olives, different cheeses, prawns, anchovies, squid and tinned fish. If one of the deck hippos can be arsed then they'll knock up a bowl of paella or chili depending on what we've got on board.

Whatever you can get your hands on locally really - you're gonna be spoiled for choice in the Med.

We're just back from the Peleponese.

We stayed in a villa and were strongly advised not to bbq, due to the exceptionally dry weather this year.

Every day we saw firefighting helicopters and aircraft flying overhead.

Yes, I did wonder if that was the case of them not being a common feature. We'd obviously only be using them on a sandy / rocky beach so little fire risk. More just a case of if we can actually get hold of some!
