Cheap rental near Heathrow?

Hi All,

Car/van rental has rocketed since last time back in UK and rental stocks got sold off during covid.

3 weeks over Xmas / NY has gone from around 300 pre-covid, to about 1000 for even a basic economy on all the various scraper websites. Turo's cheapest option currently $880 once the min protection plan bought.

Does anyone know of any small private / independents doing cheap rentals within 20 mins Uber of Heathrow?

2 adults and a toddler in a childseat (I'll be in non-pistonhead mode), 1 checked case and a couple of carry ons. Commercials would be fine if a second row seat and window (combi), but can't find nearby for Xmas period.

48 yrs old, clean int license and previously had HGV 7.5t, PCV.and motorbike in UK before I left 15 years back. I have additional car hire & excess cover with one of my accounts as well.

Any suggestions welcome!

Try https://karshare.com/ to rent a car from the local community which generally works out considerably cheaper than your standard Hertz / Avis

Car hire has gone nuts

I normally pay for a one way from Exeter to Romford around £90 at the moment they want £300 a day for a one way hire

Actually booked what looked like a (comparative) bargain on Turo last night, then host called to say unavailable, but might have other private options available.

Sounded scammy, but also suspect many legitimately trying to sidestep Turo's compulsory protection plans and fees, and just using a single car on there for advertising.
