Anyone been to The Maldives recently?
Discussion
I can’t give any Covid advice, but having been lucky enough to holiday in the Maldives many times, I will give a few generic tips - whatever the expectations, it could rain. A lot. It’s still stunning and great in the sea - especially if you’re snorkelling. I’d recommend taking some travel games, cards etc in case you needs to pass some time in non honeymoon activities 😁 It can be good to take a book of Maldive reef fish with you assuming you’ll be snorkelling, much cheaper on Amazon and a better choice than you may have on your island. If you have the opportunity to upgrade to a sea plane transfer, do it at least in one direction. Consider taking your own snorkelling gear with you. Buy an underwater camera or camera housing before you go. Don’t worry about the sharks, they won’t bother you. Look out for baby reef sharks right by the beach. Do keep an eye out for Titan Triggerfish, give them a wide berth, not really dangerous but can bite if protecting their nest. Have an awesome time!
Was there this Jan, all inclusive jobby in the north. Back then they were still in "strict" mode but even then it was....
...mask on leaving plane
....mask off in taxi unless he spotted police
...mask in bin at resort
...LF test at resort with most half hearted swabbing I've ever experienced.
...pizzaria outside resort. No masks.
So now, if they've eased off, it should be even more "hardly noticeable".
Was a nonevent on the whole back in Jan.
Saw one nutter on a pedallo, on his own, out at sea, with a mask on :-)

yes just came back
absolutely stunning - enjoy it.
if taking sea plane, its an experience in itself, so take some earplugs as it does get noisy.
do you have an "all inclusive" package?
Many years ago (1994) on honeymoon we used a seaplane transfer. It was great ! You could open the window while it was flying and have a fag ! The emergency advice from the pilot was "if we have to ditch, stay on the plane a) it floats and b) big sharks" .. absolutely stunning - enjoy it.

also be prepared to run through doha airport as often the transfer window is very short
I think we’ve got about 3.5 hours between flights as the connecting flight has been pushed back a couple of times. What’s Doha like for immigration etc?
We have snorkelling equipment, waterproof camera gear etc so think we’re good for that kind of stuff

We're going in 2 weeks for honeymoon
As far as i can tell Covid restrictions are pretty much non existent now, we're transiting via Doha with Qatar which means no visa providing we stay within the transit lounge.
Am i missing anything? Anyone travelled recently and got any pointers?
It looks like at present you just need to complete an online health declaration within 96 hrs of travel. As far as i can tell Covid restrictions are pretty much non existent now, we're transiting via Doha with Qatar which means no visa providing we stay within the transit lounge.

As for tips, when I have previously been the sun has been brutal, so I always wear a long sleeve rash vest in the sea. And I am quite dark skinned and tan easily.
