Just came back (well, a couple of weeks ago in fairness) from France where we were with my in-laws and friends over on Il de Re. We took the tunnel as we have a dog, and although split the outward drive in two by staying overnight at the Hotel de France south of Le Mans, we did the return leg in one hit. My parents-in-law, however, took the ferry and spent a few more days at either end of the two weeks just meandering around, stopping here and there and just enjoying France like they always have for the past 40 years of travelling. That's what you can do when you are retired and either side of 80 I suppose!

Now, they used to do this a lot, and being of that generation, they took their old hotel guides with them, which, surprise surprise, are a touch out of date. They are reasonably adept with technology, but they just prefer to have their guide books with hotels listed, rated and their phone numbers so they can book somewhere when they get somewhere.

So, for Christmas I have suggested that I get some new guides for them. And so here I am looking for recommendations. Does anyone have any good suggestions of decent hotel guides for France that I could look at for them?
