I'm up camping for a few days up near clitheroe. Not an area I know at all.
The kids want to do Blackpool pleasure beach so I've got them tickets for tomorrow. I've got no interest in rides and rollercoaster so I'm going to drop them off and find something else to do.

Any suggestions how to fill 8 hours? Got a car so can travel about a bit. Is blackpool worth a wander or is it as crap as everyone says?

Depends on what you like to do.

Walk the promenade from Pleasure Beach to North Pier and back. The town centre is a bit ropey but the promenade, beach and piers still look good. Mess about in arcades and sea life centre, go up the tower, visit the tower ballroom.

Stanley Park has just won 'England's favourite park in the UK' for the 3rd year running.

Lytham is nice for lunch and a wander around.

Culture, class, art, fine dining? - Sorry we don't do any of that nonsence.

8 hours does not really give you much time to go very far, Blackpool seafront is OK, they have spent a lot of money improving it. these last few years, when you get a few streets back from the promenade, some places are a bit grim, but overall. I think Blackpool gets a bum rap, it's not too bad, Don't forget to buy a "kiss me quick, squeeze me slowly" hat and a liitle stick of Blackpool rock.

Depending where you are staying near Clitheroe, Skipton is quite nice, there is the castle, you can even take a canal boat trip, and nearby Trough of Bowland is lovely.

A nice part of the world, despite what some Southerners say.

Majority of Blackpool is a st hole.

May be worth a walk down the seafront but personally I would leave fairly quickly.

As someone has said - Skipton is lovely. Get Fish and Chips at Bizzie Lizzies!

A walk along the seafront is quite nice and you can always catch a tram back. Lytham is alright.

If you’re fortunate enough to have a modern Diesel, you can give the DPF a really good clean out on the M55.

Maybe drive down to St Anne’s and then walk along the coast to Lytham for lunch and a potter about. It’s an hour’s walk and very pleasant.

The traffic jam for the Southern Lakes starting at Forton Services are <1hr from Blackpool..........

I once had 6 hours to kill in Blackpool on a wet December day. Getting fish and chips for lunch (Trip Advisor has the #1 chippy in Blackpool on it and it was the best I've had). Go up the tower, go to an arcade to observe the wildlife, go round the aquarium, get a tram up to the North End of the town and walk back.

Don't, repeat do not ever go then on to a works Christmas do at a £35/night hotel with the most racist comedian, the most worn out dancers, the tasteless Turkey and drink £100 worth of San Miguel (in theory, wallet had £100 at start of night, none next day) and really really really do not whatsoever open your room window in the middle of the night to vomit out, onto the flat roof immediately below to then spend the rest of the hungover sleepless night listening to Seagulls (Lesser-black backed gulls, big uns, to be precise) eating your vomit and scratching and pecking on the window for more.

Not been back since, don't think anything could top that experience.

Buy some white paint, go back to the campsite / town and paint off every final e from the road signs he can find in the vicinity. Then when asked for an Alabi claim to be in Blackpool with daughters.

Thanks for the advice.
Skipton is on my to do list, but it'll be on another day as if I drive there from Blackpool I'll pretty much go through the campsite again.

I'll try a stroll and maybe a trip round the aquarium. Not sure arcades are my thing...I'm more of a museums kinda guy.

Went for a walk up on Bowland tonight, and it is really amazing scenery. Brought the bikes up so hope to do a few laps of Gisburn Forest later in the week.

If walking is your thing I'd head to Lytham - the walk along the promenade is lovely.
There's a rather nice Wetherspoons (I know, I know...) you can stop at for lunch, and then pick somewhere else along the coast to explore later (Fleetwood is pretty good too).

Plenty to do in that area, just the middle of Blackpool itself is pretty grim these days.
Give us a wave; I'm over the water in Southport!
