Hello all

I have some time off work the week after next, and am thinking about a day trip to Snowdonia. OH and I went a couple of months ago and visited Beddgelert Forest (which we loved) and Beddgelert itself. This was a bit of a 'trip down memory lane' for me, as we used to visit Snowdonia for family camping holidays when I was a child, and always stayed near Beddgelert. I'd not been back for about 40 years!

Now I live in south west Wales (been here for 10 years) so a day trip is eminently doable and we really enjoyed the journey.

The only other place I can remember from childhood holidays is Bala Lake (which I thought about visiting after Beddgelert, but decided against). That may be an option.

Any other recommendations please? For two humans and three dogs. We like walks, but none of us can manage anything too strenuous, so not Snowdon itself, thanks!

Ideally places that aren't too busy and where there are walks of up to 5 miles.

Thank you in advance.

Where to begin? smile

I was there a few days ago. A great circular walk is from the Beddgelert side of Llyn Dinas. Follow the river down to Beddgelert then turn left heading along the old railway track to Aberglaslyn. From there head over the hilltop back towards Llyn Dinas. You will see a fantastic view of the lake is you come over the top of the hill.

You can start at any point where you can park the car.

It takes about 4 hours.

Beddgelert Forest is lovely. I enjoy the walk between Rhyd Ddu and Beddgelert. There's a fabulous lodge by the side of the track which looks pretty spectacular.

If you've done Beddgelert Forest, there are plenty of walks on Nant Gwynant side of Beddgelert. If you're looking to go further then the coast is lovely near Borth-y-gest.

Head up the coast road to Machynlleth stop for a walk around. On to Dinas Mawddwy, and turn off through village and over Bwlch y Groes the highest paved road in north wales to Lake Vyrnwy. Stop for walk around, avoid the cafe its rubbish, used to be very good. Back over the pass turning right at the top and on to Bala lake. from Bala off to Blaenau Ffestiniog. You will then have covered some of the best scenery and a bit of decent driving roads, Back down the A470 to home. maybe a turn off at the cross foxes for a trip along the Mach loop to Machynlleth, if the jets are flying its certainly worth the detour.

Thank you. Yes, we did the circular walking trail and stopped at Llyn Llywelyn for a picnic lunch. Not a bad little spot smile Didn't really want to leave.
