Walking London - Bath
Discussion
I'm embarking on a bit of a stroll starting Saturday week allowing 11 days to make the trip along the Thames and then the Kennet & Avon canal. I'll be carrying circa 7kg including the rucksack with spare clothes and my CPAP machine - is there anything else I need to take beyond blister plasters and plenty of water?
I'm used to walking 30 miles in a weekend but not completed an extended walk like this before.

Interested to see a full clothing list of what you're planning to take.
Done a few proper multi-day hikes and I've just taken night clothes and day clothes to wear, plus waterproofs.
Powerbank will be essential.
AirPods or other wireless headphones are good too.
You walking by yourself or with others?

Phone and charger? Spare battery/power pack in case? Waterproofs? Quickdry/wicking clothing?
Awesome walk. I couldn't even be bothered to drive it mind. #lazyarse
Yes, will take phone and charger but it will be switched off all day so no bugger can disturb the peace! Will have a thin waterproof coat but not bottoms, have bought 1 pair of walking shorts that will dry quickly. Awesome walk. I couldn't even be bothered to drive it mind. #lazyarse

I'd get a train to Reading....
The bends in the Thames add a massive amount of zig-zagging to the full route. (You can cut off some of the loops but that's probably not what you have in mind.)
Where do you plan to start?
I'll be turning left out of the front door in Chiswick, heading to the Thames by the Griffin Brewery, then turn right and keep going. The bends in the Thames add a massive amount of zig-zagging to the full route. (You can cut off some of the loops but that's probably not what you have in mind.)

You're right the Thames meanders all over but is part of the adventure, see what crops up along the way.

Taking very little, one walking shirt and one evening shirt, same with shorts and 3 pairs boxers/socks. 1 raincoat and a tube of easy wash which I'll use to keep what I've got clean.Done a few proper multi-day hikes and I've just taken night clothes and day clothes to wear, plus waterproofs.

I'll be on my own (thank goodness) and keep the phone off all day. Will be staying in a B&B or hotel each night so won't be slumming it.
Biggest pain is my CPAP machine which is essential but bulky.

Thanks for the offers of encouragement, I wasn't sure if it would be dismissed as a daft way to spend a main summer holiday. I couldn't face travel chaos either on road/air or rail so thought - why not! That said I am getting a train home but it's a small risk amongst everything else.
Sounds fantastic - very jealous.
I'd just expand the medical supplies a bit and ensure I've got some pain-killers and antihistamines. Also a small roll of PVC tape is surprisingly useful and can also be used for blisters. Suntan lotion. As a Swiss resident I'd never go anywhere without my Swiss Army Knife.
When I lived in Pimlico one day I jumped on the cycle and followed the Thames path to Oxford. Fantastic ride but from memory there are quite a few places where you have to go away from the river. Make sure you have a good map.
