In September I am driving back from Lake Como to Calais after the Italian GP. Route is north through the Gotthard road tunnel, across Switzerland and eventually passing Metz and Reims. (A4)

Does anyone have a recommendation for a hotel just to break the journey about half way.

My preference is to have something that is not too far of the main route but also has secure parking/private for the car. It attracts a bit of attention so avoid cities/street parking. Don't care about rooms much but a good meal when I get in is always good.

Hi, we took a similar route to Como in June. This place was an interesting stop.

It’s on a quiet road with parking that’s not seen by passing traffic.

My advice is don't use the Gotthard tunnel! You 2 great roads to choose from right above it, so why waste the opportunity?

I would have to agree with that.
