Hope some of you good people who use Heathrow can help me out.

Living up North I don’t use Heathrow although due to BA kindly cancelling our shuttle flight from Manchester to Heathrow and the earlier flight meaning a 9 hour transit at Heathrow I have decided to drive down.

Prefer to park with official car parks (expensive I know) and within walking distance and was wondering how long the transfer buses take from the long stay car parks and how frequently?

Also are the Pods any good - how do they work.

Trying to work out how long I need to allow from arrival at car park to the terminal since I will already built in a good “buggeration delay” for the journey down.

Thanks

Short stay parking can be very competitively priced & is walking distance to T5

Just go on the Heathrow website & you can quickly get a price comparison of the options

Thanks - I had looked and shorty stay was just over £100 more than long stay whilst the POD was £60.

Given that we are away for 18 nights and the fact that BA won’t give me a refund for the internal flights we have cancelled, an extra 100 quid seems a lot but maybe not in the scheme of things based on what the holiday is costing.

It just that I’m a tight(ish) Yorkshireman!

The pods never seem to be working - so what it should say is 'bus'.

The meet and greet is very good a T5, I'd say it's better than valet as you just cross the bridge from the car park and you're in the terminal (have to cross the road with valet). It's pretty well priced too, but more so if you're comparing with the short stay or valet options.

Pods working over the last couple of weeks and they’re great fun. Get in, select your terminal and it takes you down to the car park in a few mins. Highly recommended

Pod parking is my choice. Valet is close in cost but avoid if your flight returns late (after 10pm)

I went three weeks ago and they weren't working! Maybe I was unlucky.

Normal long stay is OK. Buses every fifteen minutes or so and takes ten minutes. Allow up to half an hour worst case I guess.

Thanks for the info - good to know about the pods and then short stay.

Timescale from Long stay also helpful - Mrs BVD was talking about leaving an hour to get from car park but half an hour tops is better.

Long stay it will probably be then.

When I was last down at T5 there was a hell of a lot of buses on the go, even at 6am. Shouldn't be an issue getting one.

Couple of weeks ago we did Meet and Greet at T5. Was only about £20 more expensive than long stay and miles more convenient.

Thanks for all the advice - just to complete the thread

I booked long stay T5 in the end - the other options were anything between £50 and £125 more expensive and I really do prefer to keep my own keys.

Hi All, was going to book the Pod parking at T5 for an upcoming trip, however, it would seem the Pods are not very reliable. Anyone with recent experience of using them.........?

POD parking was the only thing that worked on our flight out on 20/7 - day the M25 was blocked and the security queue was 2.5 hours long. From landing to getting into the car 2.5 weeks later was 30 minutes or so, POD was just get in and 5 minues or so at the car.

Would definitely use it again.

I had similar due to train strikes - I opted for Purple Parking T5 (next to the Premier Inn).
Hassle free, did the job and £70 for a week.

PT, bus or taxi... I'm taking the latter as it's only £60 each way for me and parking for two weeks hasn't been cheaper since before the pandemic. £160 is the cheapest I've seen it, at the moment I'm looking at £270.

Would rather drive but not at those prices.
