A decent drive from Andermatt over the Furkapass (traffic free this time) via Col de La Forclaz near Martigny through Chamonix. Just missed the Mont Blanc Marathon by a day otherwise the road would have been closed.
Mont Blanc wasn’t playing ball but we did manage to see the top when the cloud briefly cleared.
Here in Annecy for 6 nights right next to Lac d’Annecy - ideal location with an easy walk into town. Lots of places to eat & drink and the weather has been hot with the odd night time storm.
Whilst here, we’ve also visited Yvoire on the shores of Lake Geneva (officially the most beautiful village in France), Aix-les-Bains including Lac du Bourget - worth driving around the lake (the largest & deepest freshwater lake in France) taking in Col du Chat. Also did the boat trip on Lac d’Annecy which we did 4 years ago - not as good this time as they’ve changed the boats which severely restricts any decent photos being taken. We followed this up by driving around the lake (not as nice as Lac du Bourget but only because Lac d’Annecy is a lot more developed).
Next stop Epernay, Champagne region.

I love Annecy, truly lovely place. There was a massive fireworks festival when I was there and we managed to get a table in a restaurant right on the lake so had front row seats. It was amazing.

Yes Annecy is rather special - we stayed there 4 years ago when were doing Route Napoleon and said we would return. We were supposed to be there 2 years ago for my 60th but COVID screwed that! Nice to be back though.

Good exchange rate at the moment, but what are the fuel prices like? Sounds like a lovely trip you are on. We are heading for Brittany in late August, first trip out of fortress England since 2019.

We we’re using 98 super unleaded @ €2.09/litre at Leclerc supermarkets which is cheapest than the UK. E10 95 ul was around €1.98 from the same source. We were in the Dordogne in September 2020 with no issues & been abroad numerous times since COVID started with no problems. Enjoy your trip.
