So, we're driving through France to Northern Spain (Catalunya) in August with our 2 boys, 14 and 10, going on 12. Via tunnel.

Anyone have any decent recommendations to stop at on the way - something which they will find exciting - water parks etc. Also recommendations for a place or two to stay, ideally with a nice pool etc.

Route is being planned and likely to be based on meeting the above criteria.
Any thoughts / ideas what / where to do?

We have been going that way for a few years now in the May/June half term..

The mountain motorway A75 that take you through the old volcanos is pretty cool, and there’s a few mountain villages that you can visit.

Loads of nice hotels and to be fair very good budget hotels and very nice independent B&B.

I suppose it’s how much actual driving time you wish to do & if you can go via Paris, or Le Mans/Toulouse or route de soleil.

Calais to the boarder is say 9.5/10 hours +, pure driving time, & remember there’s certain times that you can not go near Paris due to emissions etc.

We tend to head off and have at least 5/7 hours driving time, with a big lunch break in the middle.

Fuel is about 2.30 e diesel and 2.40 e petrol tolls via Paris are about 45/50£ (If you use the tunnel under Paris which we do, as saves about an hour).

FYI, they have brought back the sleeper train..

afternoon TGV to Paris from calais (free parking), sleeper cabin from Paris at 7/8 pm for family of 4 priced at circa 200 euro arrive 7/8 am at destination. That’s what I’ve done for august as used 180 litres on the way there then 180 on the way back Lol…
