We have just booked a campsite near St Omer in August. Having never been there before what does the collective, unbounded font of knowledge thar is PH recommend for a family to see and do in the area?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Can’t add anything of relevance but I used to live in St Omer block in the RAF. The royal flying corps operated out of St Omer and then the RAF formed and so a few squadrons formed at St Omer. 41 squadron has the cross of St Omer as it’s crest. There’s an RAF memorial in the area.

For moule frites by the sea, Saint Valery Sur Somme. Montriel Sur mer is worth a visit. Walk the walls and visit the museum. I think it was used as for locations for Les Miserables.

Some fantastic beaches to explore all along the coast too.

What age groups are we talking about?

There are a few WW2 German site (la coupole, blockhouse d’eperleques - spelling might be out), lots of WW1 memorials close. OH might be interested in Cristal d’Arques where there is a factory shop and you can book a factory tour.

Most hotels in the area have a stand with tourist information sheets.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Will look at these places online. My children are 7 and 14. Don't know if that helps.

Hardelot Plage is a great seaside town for a day out at the beach, really lovely big beach perfect for families. Plenty of eateries and not too expensive. Le Touquet is bigger and grander and dearer, but again a lovely big beach. With children I'd prefer Hardelot every time, if it's just a night out with the Missus though Le Touquet is your place.

If you're into seafood the fish market at Etaples is good, and there's a good restaurant there too. The other really nice seaside town along there is Wimereux.

Nausicaa Aquarium at Boulogne will probably interest your 7 year old, probably the 14 year old too if they haven't reached the "everything Mum and Dad do is rubbish" stage yet. Chateau d'Hardelot is a nice half day visit with a very pleasant boardwalk around the lake.

All great suggestions above

Le Couple is a must

Le Touquet is favourite of mine (golf), but the beach is excellent and has horse riding and sand yachts which I’m sure the kids will love.

Not far..
