These days I don't take any cash with me when abroad, and if I do need it will use cash machines at my destination. However, we're off to Turkey next week and I understand local shops / restaurants prefer the Euro to the Lira - will I be able to withdraw Euros from the cash machines over there?

Cheers

Depends entirely upon whereabouts in the country you are. Downtown Istanbul? Probably, yes. Downtown Selçık? Almost certainly not.

An aside but exchange rates vary more for the TRY than anywhere else I've come across. By far the best is to take STLG in cash and change it in a bank. VakifBank consistently are the best or near-best in my experience.

In Side you can withdraw lira or euros from the cash points.

Used cash machine in Bodrum. Dispensed Euros, and gave a choice of their Exchange Rate or my bank's one.
Tip - make sure you change the Cash Machine language at the start,my Turkish is not good!

Be aware.....its Bayram from next week and it's been extended so the banks will be closed for most of it. This means the ATM won't get restocked once its emptied.

Not sure if you're aware it's been extended from 9th to 17th July
