The Mrs has sprung it on me about going Aruba in September. Is it worth going? We usually go to America and don’t like being stuck in one place. But because we can’t travel to America at the minute other options are being looked at.

Aruba sounds safe to walk about. We went jamica a few years ago for a mates wedding. It was alright but a week was long enough for us stuck on a complex.

We have seen a few hotels have got casinos so might go one of those. I’m a scuba diver so I will dive but other than that will I get bored?

It is a pretty small island and after four days you will be wanting to go elsewhere to explore. It is only 65 sq miles. In simple money 50% bigger than Jersey CI with a similar population of around 100,000 people. Unusual climate and architecture being Dutch. Ever been to Bermuda, same issues.

It's a nice enough island for a resort sort of trip, good hotels, places to eat etc. September is a great time to go, climate is nice and it's just before peak season so things cost a bit less.

However, unless you are happy to be on a small island for a long time (i.e. more than 3 or 4 days), it might start to be a bit repetitive. This is an entirely personal matter, it depends how much action you want. There are no safety issues in Aruba above and beyond what to normally be vigilant for when travelling, or at home.

You could also look at combining it with one of the other Dutch ABC Islands, Bonaire or Curacao. If I had to pick one from those two, I'd look more closely at Bonaire. If flying with KLM, they all work out well in combination as all 3 islands are connected together, to and from Amsterdam.

Curacao and Bonaire each have a small island off the coast, Klein Curacao and Klein Bonaire, which makes for a nice day trip by boat.

Wife and I went to Aruba in September 2001, so quite a while ago. There were no direct UK-Aruba flights so we needed to go KLM via Schiphol.

We stayed at the Bucuti Beach Resort which was excellent with a superb beach. The hotel has changed quote a bit since then.

Aruba can be considered in two halves: the north west high rise hotels with casinos where you'll find all the USA persons go, and the central portion with low rise hotels where the Europeans go. They are very different...guess which area I'd recommend!

Aruba is small but there was quite a lot to do when we were there, mostly sea related.

Our trip to Aruba was memorable, unfortunately, because 9/11 happened a few days after we arrived, but that's another story.
