I'm heading to Vegas for a stag do in September. There's 8 of us for 5 days.

What are must do things whilst there?

Something I suggested to the group was to hire some muscle cars and do a day trip somewhere. Is it worth doing this? Can you get away with spirited driving?

A gun range sounds like fun.

One of the lads mentioned a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. It sounds like a waste of money to me. I'm not particularly interested in seeing a hole in the ground. I've seen the Taj Mahal twice. Wasn't impressed. I imagine i'd feel the same about the Grand Canyon or any other tourist spot. Am I being obtuse?

I was going to say coke n hookers but your post has an odd tone so I will reply in the same tone.

I’d suggest, if you are providing ideas, you should be open to listening to the ideas others have. Most would say going to the Grand Canyon is a must do.

And… it’s possible to drive your muscle cars there on roads where you will be over taken by trucks doing 100mph. That trip also takes you over Hoover dam, but I’m sure you have seen Hadrians wall (totally random and not related at all) and was bored by it. While your friends are having the day of their lives and you are grumbling in your room about a damn hole in the ground, they will also stop by Lake Mead which is at historically low levels and uncovering dead bodies dumped there by the mob.

Battlefield Vegas is nice and convenient with a good setup https://www.battlefieldvegas.com/

They will also pick you up for free in a ex military hummer.

The Mob museum in downtown vegas. One of the extras you can buy is for firearms simulator which my partner absolutely loved. I was useless but I did still really enjoy the main museum.

I went to Las Vegas a few years ago, and the best place I visited was the departures lounge at LAS.

YMMV, of course.

Mind you, I did enjoy the Taj Mahal.

Fair point. I'm not ruling out the helicopter trip. I'm usually left feeling underwhelmed by sight seeing trips, so was seeking an opposing opinion. I much prefer exploring things off the beaten path.

Something that I have also discovered is a Kayak tour from the Hoover Dam to Willow Beach. That could be a good way to spend a day.

Why are stag and hen parties now 5 days in Vegas?
Was always just a big drink in the local town.
All mates could come and it cost nowt. Now it’s a £5k trip.
Madness.
I expect the wedding will be £80k with pink unicorns roaming the grounds of a mock stately home where she gets to be a princess for the day.

Or am I just old and grumpy?

If you are then so am I!

If you don’t want to see the GC then in some respects then apart form the obvious casinos then not a lot I can add sorry

This was a great day out https://www.evolutionexpeditions.com/kayaking-tour...

It’s pretty physical though so don’t expect to just float along with the current. On the day I went there was a slight breeze so if you stopped paddling you went backwards!

1. Not only is it a chance to do Vegas, but also an experience that will forever be remembered.
2. It's not often you get to spend a few days with the lads just carefree dicking about.
3. Were all professionals and can afford it.
4. Yes, the wedding/reception will also cost a lot.

Thanks. That's exactly the one I was talking about.

This is a very bad idea. Enjoy some cars and the experience - but ‘spirited driving’ isn’t worth the potential risks if they considered a group of guys in muscle cars reckless.

Absolutely +1!!

Great experience - ours was open-sided.....

edit: and now I've thought about it, our (ex-military) driver was a great lad, if a little too proud of Nevada being an "open carry" state, with his 9mm in it's holster on the open side of the Humvee in plain view of everyone driving past or pedestrians - out first exposure to US gun culture.

Prob because the wedding is in Vegas.

It's cheap over there. My sister has hers there and it was 1/4 the cost of doing it in Australia even factoring in the cost of 2.5 return flights.

No idea what a wedding costs in the UK, but I doubt you'll get a decent package for US$5000.

Exotics Racing.

Take some supercars around a track. I. Can speak from experience that they will let you go as fas as they think you're capable of.

Yes! That looks great!! Far better option than what I discussed above.

If you're into nature, grand views and postcard-esque scenery I think the GC is overrated.

You're better off checking out Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam and My Charleston (Sept may be a bad month for that though)

+1 for Battlefield vegas

Don't hire muscle cars; hire something like a Polaris Slingshot (two seater) and go round in that, much more fun. Eagle Rider are pretty good imo but there are others. I would go and see the Hoover Dam, it's not a bad drive. Come back into Vegas early evening as the light are turning on, go down the strip - that alone can be good fun, especially if there's a few of you doing it.

Also:
- Spearmint Rhino pretty much essential for a stag do.
- Walk the strip and take in a few of the hotels - Bellagio, Caesars, Cosmo etc
- Don't bother with the monorail
- visit old Vegas up at Fremont St in the evening
- Go up the Strat
- Combine the trip the Hoover Dam with Red Rock Canyon. Go in North, come out South nearish the dam.

And if you get approached by a woman in a casino and she's on her own, make no mistake - she's a hooker.

EDIT: it's going to be blistering hot in September, so don't forget some decent sun protection if you go out on Slingshots or similar.

I thought it was just me!

I went about 10 years ago with my then girlfriend. Didn't think much of it, but put it down, in part, to the company I was in (we weren't getting on too well).

Went again about 5 years ago with my wife, and we both felt the same.

If tacky and tasteless is your thing, you'll probably enjoy it.

(we did enjoy the Mob Museum though....)
