Tenerife next week - rules?
Discussion
Heading to Tenerife next week and having spent the last two years not paying much attention to all this Covid nonsense someone just brought it to my attention that other countries still have some crazy rules in place! e.g. queuing up for a flight all together maskless then being made to wear a mask on board, having to be vaccinated to get in etc?
I hadn't given it any thought at all until this point, thankfully I have had Covid in the past 6 months which gets me in but do I need any paperwork? Do you really need to still wear a mask on the flight to get there? If so, is it as straightforward as "I'm exempt" when boarding like it was in shops etc over here. Anyone visited recently?
Flying BA if it makes a difference.
Thank you!

No mask needed on the UK side. No mask needed on the flight.
You'll need a mask on the Spanish side for taxis and public transport although, if you book or use a minibus with blacked out windows most drivers don't ask you to wear one.
You'll need at least two jabs and a booster, your airline will ask to check for proof of this on the UK side at the check in desk.
On the Spanish side they do random checks after Spanish passport security.

Fact check - a negative LFT within 24 hours of departure and a PLF will also suffice You'll need a mask on the Spanish side for taxis and public transport although, if you book or use a minibus with blacked out windows most drivers don't ask you to wear one.

On the subject of PLF - does everyone need one regardless of injection / recovery / test etc? (Including 2 children under 10)Edit - Googling would suggest that as I have a 'recovery certificate' via the NHS I won't need any other form. Just the mask situation to overcome then. Any insight on that would be appreciated!

The issue may be the plane although it is amazing how long you can make a drink or three last!!

Thanks for the reply - have you visited recently?
I'd been reading that they're enforcing masks flying to Tenerife but not coming home? Would be great if not, not really a way to start a holiday!
I've had covid within the past 6 months so don't need any injections as I understand it.

Recovery certificates are valid for 180 days.
You can indeed spin the 'test before travel' roulette wheel as well but if youve done in five grand plus in on a family holiday, i can't recommend it.

Does anyone actually do a LFT correctly I wonder? Recovery certificates are valid for 180 days.

As I have said, the Spanish rules make no sense at all when we all know that the untested vaccinated are just as likely to bring in covid as the tested unvaccinated (or potentially more likely)
It's not Spain but I flew to both Portugal and Germany within the last few weeks and although theoretically masks were required on the flights in reality hardly anyone bothered and only one of the cabin crew on one flight (looked like it was his first day) even mentioned it.
I'm off to Gran Canaria in a few days and am not really expecting to need a mask anywhere.

Great news - BA?I'm off to Gran Canaria in a few days and am not really expecting to need a mask anywhere.
Flew back from tenerife last wednesday (22nd) went out 15th.
Announcement at boarding was masks required on flight for whole duration - saw about 4 people wearing them, no attempt to get people to wear them by the air stewards when on board.
Guidance is masks still required on public transport (inc taxis and airport transfer coaches) and within airports - everyone ignored this including the taxi/coach drivers - shop staff seemed to be the ones wearing masks and a couple of locals.
On arrival at tenerife airport they were checking everyone for valid covid passes immediately after security - 270 days for vaccine, 180 days from having covid, we both showed our booster passes on phone but they didn't actually scan them - no paperwork or locator forms required.

So from what i'm reading, if you are vaxed or not, you either need to provide a negative test, proof of recovery within 180 days or proof of vax in 270?
Yes that's how it seemed, i missed hat bit above and have just added it - we both showed our booster pass on our phones but they didn't scan them although did have what looked like a scanner in their hands. It wasn't just one casual airport staff person doing it to show willing, there were at least 4 or 5 people there a couple checking and the rest at desks talking to people
Apparently Spain were reviewing the guidance on the 16th but nothing had been updated while we were out there that we could find.

Really helpful thank Mark, exactly what I was hoping to hear. Which airline were you on?Announcement at boarding was masks required on flight for whole duration - saw about 4 people wearing them, no attempt to get people to wear them by the air stewards when on board.

I flew two weeks ago to the Canaries with TUI and no masks were needed.
Check-in at Birmingham Airport was very strict regarding checking our Covid vaccination documentation. Zero concern on the other side.
No masks worn anywhere except public transport. Friend caught two taxis one asked for a mask the other didn't care.

I'm just back from Lanzarote (via EasyJet) and the same vaccination status as you (infection in last 180 days with the NHS Covid travel pass because of this). You need more than just having had Covid. If no NHS record you will need to do a pre-flight test.I hadn't given it any thought at all until this point, thankfully I have had Covid in the past 6 months which gets me in but do I need any paperwork? According to the Spanish rules you need to complete a Spanish Health Travel form (SpTH) because of your vaccination status. It can be completed up to 48 hours before you travel. It is purely for paperwork purposes. It was scanned (probably something for them to do as they did look bored) when they saw my paper SpTH form. I suspect if form was hidden I would/could have just walked through the check area.
Nothing else happened. I was never asked for my NHS Covid pass at the airport or hotel. When I did the same travel last year with BA, I was asked for all forms a Heathrow BA check-in, everyone's SpTH scanned at Lanzarote airport and hotel also checked all required documentation, so it is much more relaxed.
Easyjet did announce at the start of the flight that masks should be worn on the outbound flight, but never made an attempt to enforce it an no-one who wasn't wearing a mask put one on. Return it was not even mentioned. I suspect BA will be similar. Rules say to wear masks in taxi but never did, although both drivers did. Don't know how relaxed they will be in Tenerife compared to Lanzarote but a police checkpoint ignored us.
No masks are required while out there (at the time of typing this), except on public transport. No masks were required in the airport. They are very close to returning to a sensible normality.
