James Villas
Villa Plus
Oliver’s travels

Air B&B but read the print well. Sometimes the pools could be shared or you could be at the end of the owner’s garden. James Villas advertise on air b&b at a slightly lower rate.

Have you ever rented a villa through Oliver's travels?

I took a look the other day as an ad came up when I was searching for something else. Their prices are somewhat on the high side.

The 2 companies I can recommend are CV Villas and Simpson Travel.

Oliver’s Travels have a strange relationship with owners such that deposits are near impossible to get back.

I have used Vrbo and Air bnb.

Never had any issues. Just read what you are getting and look at the photos really carefully.
Read the reviews.
Try and find the property on google maps too.

Also if you spot somewhere you like do a bit a research - you can often find the owners of the property will have a facebook page or their own website and if you contact direct you might get a better price.

Though you may also risk losing any protection that the platform provides (if any)

I rent my villa through these people, been with them for years

They have the added advantage of being locally based to all the villas they handle, English owned and operated

Same here. I always use Vrbo or AirBnB for European villas or apartments.

As you say, do a bit of research though.

We rent the same villa in Menorca every year via Airbnb, it used to be a Villaplus villa. When they switched to Airbnb they dropped their price, and they haven't increased it for the past 5yrs. We pay a small deposit via the website, and the balance we pay in cash when we arrive.

It was - including a hot tub that looks over the view. NO neighbours - I wandered round nekkid! ON the side of a steep mountain overlooking the sea. Cyprus, Greek side.

We rented it in late September and it was plenty hot enough. Lots of nice beach bars a short drive away, with a lovely pebble small beach just at the bottom of the hill in the local harbour.

Only thing was the pool is partly shaded by the mountain behind in autumn so doesn't get enough sun that time of year to be warm enough (rest of the terrace was perfect). I like a fresh pool but it was quite astringent!

It's available with one or two other co.s too but I've used James before so trust them - although don't expect them to do anything at all! You get the code for the key box then don't hear from them again. I kind of like it that way tbh. Two weeks, just the two of us. Was a superb Covid-escape last year after the "meh" summer.

Very high quality villa, clearly built to spec by the owner.

Thank you. Mrs G is half Cypriot and that would be a great surprise holiday for her.

James Villas have some lovely villas. I’ve used them twice. The same villas can be found on air b n b cheaper with a better refund policy.

I just got back from Zante staying in a James villa property. I booked last minute and had about 65% discount. If you’re not fussy on location then a last minute deal can be found. I didn’t have to to compromise on villa (see below).

Yep, it's certainly worth doing some detective work with villa listings, not just to ensure "Sleeps 10" means something sensible like 5 double/twin bedrooms and not 2 people on the sofa, 1 person in a single and everyone else in a 7 bed room, or that "1km from shops" is by road not as the crow flies on a neighbouring island but also to get the best price. I've made savings in the past both by finding a property on one rental site, then finding it on others at lower prices and also by googling the property name and finding the owner's personal property rental website.

Very good advice. The more reputable websites are good at being transparent but with air b&b you really have to make sure you are aware of all the details. When looking this year so many of the villas were advertising room for 6 to sleep. 2 of which were on the sofa in the living room.

Head to the Alps and things get even more fun. We passed on the apartment for 6...that consisted of a double sofa bed in the living/dining/kitchen room, a pair of bunk beds built into the (doorless) corridor between the living room and the small double bedroom and toilet/shower room!
