Never been to Greece or it's islands before and fancy it in September. Can splash out a bit as we aren't moving house anymore. I've narrowed it down to three specific villas, roughly in:
- near Rethimno, north coast of Crete
- near Kolympia, east coast of Rhodes
- south end of Kefalonia, nearest town looks to be Skala(?)
This type of holiday is alien to me really, and while I do just want to spend a fair bit of time chilling out, I also want to do some driving around, sight-seeing, visiting various towns and villages, etc. Just for historical/archaeological clout, Rhodes potentially comes out on top.
What are your recommendations?

I’d vote Crete followed by Kefalonia. Came back from Crete yesterday and stayed between Heraklion and Rethimno.- near Rethimno, north coast of Crete

Crete probably has more to see than Kefalonia as it’s much bigger. Both are lovely and fairly cheap once you get there (€30-40 for a meal for two with wine etc.).
I wouldn’t go all inclusive as there are so many lovely tavernas to eat in.
You can’t go wrong with any Greek Island and there is nothing wrong with Rhodes but I prefer the other two of your choices.
There are so many islands - it's quite hard to recommend what might suit.
The smaller islands are often so small that a there's not much to see other than a couple of monasteries and one road - so you tend to stay in the harbour - islands like Halki, for example.
Others, like Rhodes are fun to drive around and are (obviously) much bigger.
A bigger island is going to give you the choice of both tranquil spots and towns to mooch around.
Paros and Naxos are lovely quite small....

We went for option no. 1. Thanks for the quick replies all!
You can’t go much wrong with any of the big islandsVisit Knossos to see Minoan culture and the Venetian port of Xania - we had great local meals at To Xani in the old town. Or head to the far eastern end of north Crete and the wonderful beach at Vai
