This has probably been asked many times before but times may have changed.

My wife and I are flying from Scotland to Barcelona in October for 15 days.

Where is the best place to get flights? We’re cruising so will have hold luggage as well. I’ve no objection to budget airlines but will the luggage extras make it as expensive as a mainstream airline?

Are the price comparison sites the way to go or is it better going to the airlines themselves?

Also the cruise is booked through a travel agent. Will they be able to get a better deal on flights than if I book direct.

As superpp said, skyscanner.net for the base flight price...but usually the hard slog through the individual airline webites to work out what the real cost will be once you have bags, etc.

For a cruise it might be worth looking at the price of business flights. Flying business with BA will not only get you priority check-in and boarding, lounge access (so a nice way to start a luxury holiday) and free food/drink on the plane, but also 2 hold bags each as part of the ticket price (if you aren't light packers). Given the any/extra bag prices some airlines charge, the cost of food and drink both at airports and on board, and the cost of getting from some of the budget airline's idea of where their 'Barcelona' airport might be it can often get close and sometimes actually be cheaper to go business once everything's costed in.
