Hi All,

Next week, I'll be staying in Linlithgow, for 4 days.

I've never been to Edinburgh, so we'll have to go there . . . but where else might you recommend ?

Our only constraint, is that we'll have our Ridgeback dog with us - so dog-friendly suggestions would be appreciated (If you know of any dog friendly pubs in the area, please let me know).

We are happy to drive a fair distance (c.90 minutes) for great scenery/walks/beach - especially if there's a good pub too ! smile

I don't know the region at all and I'd be interested to know of any 'must see' places to visit. Thank you.

You’re on the Union canal in Linlithgow which has enjoyable walks in both directions.

To the west, the canal path crosses the Avon acqueduct (impressive) and a little further on there’s the bridge 49 bistro.
A couple of miles to the the east towards Edinburgh there’s the Park bistro. Both welcome dogs, but only outside I think.

The Kelpies and The Falkirk wheel are also a short distance away.

It’s good you have a car as trains will be a little ‘intermittent’ next week.

Stirling Castle and Wallace Monument are worth a visit in my opinion.

Falkirk Wheel too.

Most places in the town allow dogs inside. The best place in terms of food quality is the Bridge Inn but I don't know what their policy is on dogs. They do have outdoor dining available though.

I wouldn't recommend Bridge 49 Cafe and Bistro, just personal opinion. If going on a walk along canal I would suggest you go the other way to the Park Bistro which is much nicer.

Beecraigs country park good location for dog walking.

Recommend going to South Queensferry too for a wander or meal.

Nice beach and castle at Blackness. Pub/restaurant there called Lobster Pot is good. Don't know if dog friendly but again, seats outside.

I would avoid Falkirk/Grangemouth, Bathgate, Livingston and Bo'ness. Nothing wrong with them but there are better alternatives.

Some good places to go in Fife within 90 mins driving too.

Happy to discuss further on phone if you want, just pm me your number.

The Champney Inn always used to be excellent. That's in Linlithgow itself

Done a pub crawl in Linlithgow for a leaving night years ago and got a t-shirt at the end of it lol. Good pint of Guinness in The Black bh, that aside my best advice for Linlithgow would be to leave!

Hopetoun House near South Queensferry worth a visit - you can buy a grounds only ticket and an interesting enough walk around - dogs fine on a lead.

South Queensferry can be very busy itself - good walk along through the woods on a track just under the rail bridge heading east with access to the shore.

We went to Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway Museum and steam train ride, was really interesting and some great locos/carriages in the museum, if you're into that sort of thing. It was more fun watching the engines shunting around than being on the train itself, as once you're sat in a carriage you can't see the engine any more!

About 4 miles from Linlithgow station, I cycled it but I'm not sure if there's a decent footpath, will be quite a climb to get back up too but plenty of parking if you drive there.
