Taking the wife in November for her birthday, 5 nights. Any recommendations on things we should look to do. Will be booking Burj and Aura pool/sky bar. Don't really fancy an excursion type affair tbh, dessert trip etc. Any where special to eat or anything you'd recommend as a 'must do'?

Cheers

I enjoyed the argy bargy of the little water taxis to get to the Gold Souk (the boats were better than the souk!). I took the fast ferry from the marina to get there, and that is a peasant trip up the coast.

A visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was a highlight of my trip, but it is closer to Abu Dhabi than Dubai. I went late afternoon so caught the sunset there and saw the mosque in sunlight and later all illuminated in the darkness.

The fountains at the Dubai Mall are fantastic (think Bellagio turned up to 100).

Various visitors I had over my years of living there have enjoyed:

Butterfly World
Drinks on the QE2 (now a floating hotel)
Observation deck at the Burj Khalifa
Visiting the camel racing (on the outskirts of the city, you'll need a car)
Souks / Dubai Museum and the old town in general (do the open top bus tour and hop on/off at these
If she's a car nut too then the Tomini collection is worth a visit

Food wise - what do you like? You can get all levels of all types of food so where to recommend depends on your taste and budget

Sadly for me I worked in Abu Dhabi for a bit. The only bit I enjoyed was the grande mosque.

Then I'd suggest maybe you didn't look hard enough.
Granted Abu Dhabi isn't Dubai and doesn't have the same level of leisure options, but there's still plenty to do there and I always enjoyed my days / weekends in the city.

Another 2nd for the Butterfly Garden - its excellent and very low priced too!

Deep Dive Dubai could be good if youre into that sort of thing

We went and played with the penguins at Ski Dubai before covid, not sure if the penguins/penguin experience is back yet but SkiDubai was great fun and a massive contrast to the 45ºc+ temps it was at the time

Ain Dubai is excellent and provides great vistas especially at sunset and worth doing (closed for upgrades/maintenance at the moment though I believe)

Museum of the Future is good and worth a visit

I really enjoyed the trip up the Frame

Motiongate - the theme park, cheap to get into and a different day-out/afternoon out for Dubai ... Dreamworks based theme park, lots of the rides / rollercoasters are indoors and zero queues

It really is a city with something for everyone with an ounce of imagination

Deep Dive Dubai's great as an experience, even if never dived before. As per most things in Dubai, it’s expensive but an impressive facility.

Just in to mention that you are looking at Aura skypool. Utterly outstanding.

When booking, whether its am or pm make sure you are in the sun as in the shade + being up that high can be a bit windy / chilly even!
