I know with Brexit we have to get our passports stamped going in and out of the EU. I've done this going in and out of France ok.
I'm planing a trip going out through France then to Switzerland and Germany finally coming home via Holland.

All of these EU countries are part of the Shengen zone which effectively has no borders so do I have to get my passport stamped at each border or just when I enter and leave the zone ie stamped in at the French Border and stamped out Dutch border?

Does anyone out there in the PH world know?

The only border you cross is a customs one in and out of Switzerland. Other than that no extra stamps.

All EU and Schengen contries still have borders, still have random checks (often NOT directly at the border). You will get one stamp when entering the Schengen Zone, and no further ones because Switzerland is part of the Schengen association agreement since 2008.

The passport stamp if effectively in and out of Schengen. It is only to quantify your 90/180 day tourist allowance, so is only of real interest at the border if you seem to have a lot of them.

I have friends with second homes who are trying to maximise their allowances and no one at a border has got to taking out pen and paper to tot-up their days.

Presumably that's done by the computer they use to scan the passport.

So that's one stamp in and one stamp out irrespective of which country you enter or leave the Shengen zone.

That make life a bit easier.

Which is why the EU countries have different lines for EU and all other passports. The EU Ones are presumably not stamped.

We went in a day trip from Croatia to Montenegro stamped out of Croatia - Montenegro [not EU) didn’t bother with stamps - then stamped back in again to Croatia.

Bit disappointed as I wanted another stamp to my collection!

I have a French Visa and when flying between France and Spain the only time my Passport is looked at is at the boarding gate - no border force. Driving it is never checked.

When I travel from UK to Spain and therefore guided to passport control, I have to be careful to ensure a lazy guy does not stamp my passport. They are slowly replacing humans with full id and passport scanning.

They are checking - I got asked at the channel tunnel in April - I have a residency card so all OK, but it was the first time I've been challenged.

As above though - Schengen is one big area & they will just stamp in & out, not between countries.

I was going to ask about over staying in Schengen but Googled it instead .

I didn't read it all but lots of words like deportation , fines , ban and problems for the next time you wanted to travel .

Even if you overstay just 1 day .

Theory and reality.

If you entered at a quayside in Croatia you will find that they do not have the same kit that they have in CdG in Paris.

Obviously, over time that will change, but Schengen is not yet an area where everywhere is equal. Its a problem that the EU is trying to rectify, but entering the EU from Turkiye remains the preferred option. Leaving via the northern coast of France is also high on the list.

Macron is fighting a rear guard action against “the clown in charge of the circus” but some day things might get “normalised”.

Well, the average traveller from the UK is going to be landing at an airport or a major ferry terminal, not a small Croatian port.

Arriving at an exit check with a UK passport - and either an old or no entry stamp is going to cause questions to be asked

I have had mine checked once at the Danish border, mind you my passport has a lot of stamps now!
