Hello - as per title. We are going to hire a car in Italy in next couple of weeks and I have conflicting info as to whether we need an International Driving Permit along with Photocard licence? Anybody know the rules? Thanks

Internet says it's a legal requirement in Italy. I got one for Malaga recently purely because I'd heard on the grapevine reports of some hire firms demanding to see them. They did not, and I forgot and left it at home anyway :-)

They are about £5 at post offices and it's instant, and valid for one year.

Pre-brecit I'd not have bothered, but until things settle down, I'd do it for the sake of a fiver.

Have hired multiple times in Italy since Brexit. It is supposed to be a requirement but I have never been asked to show one. Rather like the print out of endorsements etc that you are also 'required' to have.

Off again in a month Or so. May get one if I am in the Post Office just to be on the safe side, but would be happy to go without.
