Going to America for our honeymoon soon. 5 nights vegas, 4 nights LA, 4 nights San Diego.

People don't tend to have much positive to say about LA in comparison to the other two.

We've got a car for 3 of the days in LA, what should we do?

(30's, like exploring, chilling, beaches, zoos etc. Anything apart from shopping really)

Where are you staying in LA?

I've lived in and around LA for 11 of the last 20 years, and although the traffic is a pain, you can definitely get around easily enough. You could spend an excellent day visting the Getty Center, then driving along the Pacific Coast Highway to lunch in Mailbu (I like Duke's) before spending a couple of hours in Santa Monica or Venice. Another good day would be around the Petersen Automotive Museum and the other attractions on Museum Row. Personally, I love the Long Beach area, so I'd probably head down there early one morning for breakfast at Chuck's Diner before heading into Long Beach past the Queen Mary and on up the coast through San Pedro and Palos Verdes before getting something to eat in Redondo Beach or Manhattan Beach.

I live in Pasadena now, so don't hesitate to PM for ideas.

The Jay Leno car collection would be worth a visit if still open for the public.

Zuma beach is pleasant, and so is the drive there along the coast through Santa Monica and Malibu. But make sure to avoid weekend traffic, especially Sundays with beautiful weather.

I didn’t think that was open to the public, so I went to the Petersen Automotive Museum which is rather good

Also the Rock Store on Mulholland Highway, which is a famous diner not a shop that sells stones

You simply have to do the above, plus Santa Monica Pier (just so you can hum the song in your head), Venice beach to witness such marvels as a sword swallower (if he's still alive). PLus a drive down Rodeo, and defo Mullholand drive (all of this is a must if you have played the GTA games too :-) )

I like LA.

From vegas cross country to Palm Springs, then up one of the great roads to San Diego would be my choice. Don’t get me wrong, Santa Monica is great, in fact did it at Xmas.
Off to San Fran on Friday for a nice “little” road trip to Moab !

Definitely go through Joshua Tree National Park if you're headed that way. I love it there, and took my cousin there two weeks ago when he visited from Oz.

If you're into Movies, Universal Studios is worth a visit and Warner Brothers Studios is not far away either, the Backlot tours are very interesting. I'd also recommend a trip up to Griffiths Observatory, you get a great view of L.A. if the smogs not to bad plus a half decent view of the Hollywood sign and if you're really into movies you can drive through the tunnel they used in Back to the Future on the way back down

Just reread, so don’t have a car until LA. ? First time to vegas maybe more than two nights, now down to two. Mid June this year just the one before Death Valley.

Space Shuttle Endeavour at the California Science Center is a must IMO. There's a nicely placed SR-71 (actually an A-12) outside too.

We drove up to Santa Barbara, went out on a boat whale watching, drove back down the Pacific coast highway, stopped off at zuma beach, went for a walk along Malibu beach then up through Malibu canyon.
Take a spin down to seal beach for a walk up the pier and a dander round the town.
Drive up to Griffiths observatory, on the way we stopped at Hollywood park (lake Hollywood?) for a good view of the Hollywood sign.
On the way back down we took a wrong turn and ended up driving down the tightest twistiest road I've ever been on which was fun. Some interesting houses on the road and a few dusty beat up old 911s parked on the driveways wierdly.
