Does anyone have a recommendation for travel insurance that would cover the various out-of-pocket expenses of getting to the airport and pre-booked items once at your destination?

I'm booked to go on holiday next month and hearing about all the hundreds of flights being cancelled is encouraging me to make sure my insurance is watertight. A taxi to the airport, coupled with pre-booked train tickets at my destination will leave me losing around £200 if the flight gets cancelled.

Can anyone recommend insurance that would cover this? A friend says the airline is, initially, responsible for such expenses, then the credit card company (I booked my flights with my Amex, but reading the terms of the cover included with my account shows that these kinds of expenses would NOT be covered) and then, finally, a claim on my travel insurance.

Phil.

When did you book the holiday?
Seen on consumer sites that they have a clause that the insurance had to be booked within a short time period of booking the holiday.
