3 days in Athens.

My wife and I have got 3 full days in Athens in October before joining a Virgin Voyages Cruise.

What is the best way to manage a timetable in order to see the most?

Obviously there are the tourist buses and we’re not adverse to taking a train as well but we really don’t want to spend a fortune on ‘organised’ tours if possible.

Anything to be wary of as well?

I had 3 days there a couple of years ago and it's a fabulous city! We stayed at The Athens Gate hotel near Hadrian's Arch and just walked everywhere as all the big stuff is pretty central to there. We got the train from the Acropolis station (which was just around the corner) to the airport and it was just a few Euros. Simply wander about and soak it all up, enjoy
