We are driving down to the dordogne on June 20th from calais. We can either go via Tours or towards Le Mans. We are looking for somewhere nice to stay about half way down, so either Le Mans area or Tours for an overnight stop.

Doesn't have to be in either town, just in the general vicinity. Would like decent hotel with either nice food or walking distance of some decent grub and possibly a beer. Off street parking is an absolute must.

Does anyone have any recommendations please?

Thanks

Can highly recommend this one as we've stayed there several times for the LM week.

Also, haven't been back since it closed and reopened but the Grand-Hotel at Chateau du Loir was always our favourite and we stayed there for 20 odd years.

We stay here on a regular basis.

Lovely town with excellent restaurants and walks beside the
Loire.

Hotel has a gated car park too!

I stayed at the Chateau Belmont in Tours
It's a short walk to the tram and although the grounds are nice there isn't much in the immediate proximity to do. Tours itself is nice by the river, but quickly turns into a less desirable place to stay.

If you do stay at Tours, stay north of the river.

I stayed at an IBIS on the south side once, a bit rough, whilst waiting for the (admittedly) convenient tram into town, a hoodlum was about to engage in some discourse with my wife and kids of the kind that ends with a knife. My arrival stopped that particular course of action. Tours is nice enough to visit once. But keep to the touristy areas.

Hotel was lovely by the way.

Keep 'em coming guys, although the place Positronic suggested looks good and only 5 mins off the Autoroute.

We normally stay in Honfleur on the way down (as we live in NE England) but we’ve also stayed in Blois which is midway between Orleans & Tours - nice enough little town but we were in an Airbnb.
You also have the infamous Hotel De France in La Chartre-sur-le Loire which has a long history associated with Le Mans 24 hour race. Food is really good in the restaurant there.

A little further along the river from Tours, I can heartily recommend Amboise.

With the added advantage of the chateau that Leonardo da Vinci died in, which is open to the public (paid), but you can see the be the died in ( smile ), plus lovely gardens.

Town is nice, as is the smallish chateau overlooking it - also open to the public.

Domain de la Corbe is just up the road from us. Also Grand Hotel at Chateau du Loir but I don’t think I could recommend it.
Motor sport related is Hotel de France as suggested is a good call

Looks like the Hotel de France doesn't have parking, which is a shame.

You would never know there are such attractive hotels around - it's alwaysa bit of pot luck otherwise.

Regarding parking at Hotel de France, there is a car park directly outside the hotel - plenty of very nice expensive vehicles including when we were there a bunch of “Blower” Bentleys parked in the square. Some of the annex rooms I think have parking as we saw a McLaren parked up in a courtyard.

Ah, ok, that helps, thanks. Just been reminded by my wife that the restaurant is closed on a Monday.

Think you will find most restaurants closed Mondays, it’s a French thing
That maybe the deciding factor in your choice
