Off to Mexico in August. Staying between Tulum and Akumal.

I know that seaweed (sargassum) is a constant issue there but heard the authorities are doing a lot to try and sort it. Offshore floating barriers, collection ships etc.

Anyone been and can confirm how much or how little the issue is? Seen many images of the white sandy beaches with turquoise sea, then get others with beaches full of piles of brown seaweed that apparently stinks.
As it's an anniversary recharging trip, would hate to get there and end up staying by the hotel pool all the time (except for going to the cenotes)

Perhaps they should herd the seaweed instead.

I've not been down that way since before lockdown, but my experience is that Cancun is OK, but as you get further down the coast it gets progressively worse. I've mainly done the big resorts north of Playa del Carmen and didn't find the beaches at all attractive, even though they were out every day clearing the seaweed it all came back within a couple of hours.
