Hello all. Heading up from Manchester to north of Glasgow tomorrow and would like to go for a nice walk at some point along the way.

Can anyone suggest a pleasant one or two hour walk not too far from the motorway please (no more than five or six miles)? Ideally not far after Gretna so it splits the journey in two.

Any kind of walk is fine, up a hill, along a river, village trail, foresty thing...

Cheers :-)

Great suggestions so far.

Your plan is also ideal for a visit to one of the many visitor centres and walks along Hadrians Wall.

Cheers,
Dougie.

you're welcome. Hope you had a wander and ice cream in Moffat too. In amongst the blue rinse brigade.

Oh and there's an ancient almost unique fish up there too! No chips though.

Moffatt struck me as the land of the living dead, with a ridiculous traffic system.

Afternoon tea in Brodies was OK though, and the car wash at the top of the town was excellent value. The bird crap from the overnight at The Wheatsheaf in Sandbach had to be seen to be believed.

But yes, decent walk, cheers. Friend's wedding tomorrow and then we shall try Goatfell again...

Well then we stopped in Balfron to go to a wedding, and right here in the town is Doyles coffee shop.

Yep, on successive days we've been to Brodies and Doyles. Priceless.
