Firstly, my apologies if this kind of thread is common however I rarely venture here!

GF and I are looking to get away for a week mid August and would like to book something absolutely ASAP, our priorities/ideals are -

- on, or a short walk to, a beach plus a pool within the resort.
- within a 4h or so flight from any of the "London" airports, any destination would be OK with us (Caneries, Balearics, anywhere around the Med etc)
- within, or a short walk to, the local town which must have something along the lines of waterside bars, restaurants.
- nowhere too touristy and definitely not somewhere where the caf s are of the "full English" variety with adjacent Sky sports bars, if you know what I mean.
- somewhere with a bit of history/old town feel
- no more than half board as we'd probably be out as much as we can
- doesn't have to be a hotel though we would appreciate the amenities
- Around the 3k area for flights plus hotel/accommodation

Cheers - CS

Not a particularly helpful response, but you're going to need to adjust one of 3 things:

1. Your budget
2. Your timing
3. Your requirements

You'll get a holiday in August for your budget - but it will be slim pickings and you're unlikely to meet many of your requirements
You'll get most of what you want for your budget - just not in August
You'll get what you're looking for, in August - for ALOT more than your budget.

Is there a specific reason why you're going in August? Is one of you a teacher - if not, picking another time would be my first port of call

Yeah, a quick look on the 'net does suggest we may be short on options and something may have to give, mid-August isn't one of them unfortunately due to when we can both take time away from work. Requirements will be the first thing to give, budget can't really go much higher, if at all frown

Have you approached a travel agent with your requirements? It is literally their job to find you what you want, with the added bonus of the staff having been to most of the places to offer personal thoughts.

Your criteria is not unrealistic as you can get 4 star hotels for a week in August, with flights, for around £2.5k.

South of France is what came to my mind with the caveats in place - possibly Northern Spain also might work - never been but people have said Stiges is lovely - not sure on price though.

Just back from elounda in Crete that might fit the bill. Fishing village type feel, waterside restaurants, historical sites close by. No riff raff. Choice of hotels to suit most budgets.

I was going to say Croatia but I don’t think that will be possible within the budget so what about going a little bit further off piste and going to Kotor or Tivat in Montenegro?

Beautiful places by all accounts, lots of history and still reasonably cheap. Direct flights with EasyJet to Tivat available in august for around £250pp or cheaper still if you go to Podgorica with Wizzair and then get a transfer down.

We are off to Dubrovnik soon -11 nights half board in a TUI a la Carte for £2500 for the two of us. Will no doubt be higher in August but May be a good call.

Croatia is stunning. We were supposed to go back in 2020 but couldn’t go for obvious reasons, being replanned for next summer, I’m excited again now it’s popped back into my head!

Thanks for the replies all, we're booking a week's stay in Parga (mainland Greece) later this morning.

Croatia came up on the shortlist however the GF really took a liking to a particular hotel and Parga in general so that's where we're off to. First break for both of us since C19 so to say we're looking forward to it is an understatement.

Good to hear - looking forward to it apart from the 0230 departure time from home to get a 0600 flight!

Santorini Veggera Hotel?

It's in the less touristy area of santorini. Right on the beach. Not such what the costs are but you can look into that.

£2.5k for a week for 2 in aug

So for 5 in a aug for 2 weeks that’s £12.5k grrr

Stayed there in 2005, amazing place, back then was 120 euro a night B&B.

Just get on the jet2 or Tui app / website and start searching.

I’d be thinking Greek islands might be ideal but there are lots to choose from and you can narrow down the search terms in many ways.
