Has anyone had any recent experience with parking in Florence close to the historic center? I looked into this, and there are various alternatives which are not so easy to evaluate against each other.

I'm willing to pay more for less walking or commuting to the center, but I prefer not to be fleeced, which seems to rule lots of small private garages in the ZTL.

Recently parked at the Santa Maria Novella train station which seemed fine. It was a Fiat 500 rental so didn't it would attract any attention and hoped for the best that it didn't attract a scratch - fortunately it was all fine.

Not cheap. Something like €27 for 6 hours. Super convenient though.

Is that the parkinstation.it parking lot at SM Novella?

https://www.parkinstation.it/

I noticed that, and it did seem like a good trade-off between price and location.

I've used the underground car park at Porta al Prato, after realising the 911 was likely to bottom out trying to enter the residents car park at the AC Hotel opposite.

No problems while it was there, and payment went on the Telepass/VIACard I'd been using for tolls

Santa Maria Novella station is reasonably close to all that you'd want to see in a day in Florence...and easy walk to, say, Piazza della Signoria which is Florence's main Centro Storico square, and close to The Ufizzi.

Those ZTLs.....easily to get caught and heavy fines. Avoid!
