Booked a last minute Virgin Voyages cruise from Barcelona Port at end of may.

Not sure what's going on to spike the demand & prices for flights direct BHX to Barcelona as being the eternal optimist I am I didn't consider there would be any issue getting a sensibly priced flight into Barcelona airport.

Turned out I was wrong, inc 20kg cases for two of us the best I could find was over £1200 with Ryanair. Frankly ridiculous for what you'd usually manage for about £120 each I'd say.....

Ended up booking Ryan air for about half that to Barcelona Reus, approx 60 odd miles away & wondered if anyones been there & can shed light on what transport options to Barcelona Port are available near by, ease of use & likely costs of same pls?

A simple search turned that link up. There are many other options to explore. It's over a 100 klm distance. A taxi can be taken to the local station and the train it into Barca.
Keep you're wits about you when moving through the town and stay savvy.

Yes I've heard Barcelona is a pickpocketing nightmare..... Think we'll just book one of those taxi's to take us door to door & cut out the hassle of dragging cases & potential agro.

Expensive but probably the best way with cases etc.
I've seen some unbelievable attempts of theft on the various times I've been there, including the port terminal.

Barcelona is no worse (or better) than any other major city in the world with regard to theft/pick-pocketing. If you leave yourself wide open, someone will take advantage of it at some point. Just be careful and use common sense.

If you have some time in Barcelona before you set sail - after you've checked in to the ship, it's a nice walk from the port into the city itself and a cheap taxi back if you don't fancy walking both ways.

Barcelona is an amazing city.

Yes exactly it's no worse than any other major city that is a tourist hotspot.

Those flight prices sound crazy though, I've never seen a low cost charge that for two seats. A quick look shows Vueling going BHX to BCN end of May for a hundred and something quid (plus bags).

Reus to the port is a bit of a PITA way to start your trip, much easier to El Prat smile

Cheers for the pointers everyone.

I intend to look mildly down market walking around Barcelona but the Mrs expects to be wearing all her finery inc jewellery so will have to rein her in a tad..
