I know there are old threads but looking for something current.

Will be flying out for 3 weeks in July and I'm looking for car hire automatic (VW golf size or above)

Two years ago we went with OK RentaCar (now OK Mobility)
That was my first time renting in Mallorca. It wasn't great and had a long wait to collect the car after getting a shuttle from the terminal. I suppose I have been spoilt these last 10 years when renting from AutoReisen or Cicar in Tenerife.

What deals are currently available? Ideally looking at a refundable deal since post Covid means nothing is for certain.

Thanks.

Agreed. Hire cars are fiendishly expensive this year on the island.

We’ve changed our plans and are driving and taking a ferry from Toulon.

Sorry to be no help.

I usually head into town to the rent-a-wreck places. They usually haggle if you're up for the excitement.

Try RecordGo - always my preference

Create a Club account 1st and you get a bit more discount and "vip" queue when you pick the car up

Wiber do a smart car, it does mean you take there insurance but you just use a smart phone app and avoid the que. Vanrell are also onsite and similar to Plus car in the canaries, neither are looking cheap.

No bargains to be had this year, we are not bothering with a car for the first time and looking at buses and taxis.

If you are looking at hiring I hear good things about Wiber, but only if you take their enhanced packages and avoid the basic one.

We have usually rented through OK but their waiting times have got worse and worse each year, last year we decided it would be the last.

We’re here now, paid around £500 for Golf equivalent car for 9 days, not cheap by any stretch, but not much choice in the matter. Having only recently discovered Mallorca, I’m hooked!

I recently rented a car from Terrys Car Hire in Palma. Previously recommended on here. All booked over email, very seamless process with driving license emailed in advance. €230 for a Leon Estate for 7 days, albeit booked before Christmas.

When you arrive the car is waiting in the short term car park (they have already text you the location), key on the wheel and off you go! Drop it back into the short term on your return, lock the keys in the boot and that’s it!

Easiest rental car experience yet. No queues or bloody shuttle.

We used Dollar when we were there a couple of weeks ago - booked last minute so it wasn't cheap (£300 for a Seat Leon for a week) but that was the best deal going. 5 min free shuttle from the terminal, no hard sell on their own insurance, brand new car, no queues at all. All quite civilised really.
Found the deal via Skyscanner's comparison tool.

We have travelled to Mallorca 3 times already this year and have used a number of rental companies...

In February we used Wiber and had a near new 400km Ford Kuga and a couple of weeks ago we used Record and had a little Renault Captur. Both of these companies pick you up at the airport and take you to their site. It's only a 5 minute minibus ride.

The other company I have used is Vanarell and we had a Fiat Panda which was a complete hoot to drive! Lots of fun!

Previous years' we've used Roig but this was is Cala D'or where they're based, not sure if they operate near Palma.

I always leave it the the last minute to book and that seems to be favourable price wise compared to booking weeks in advance.

Also try the rental car comparison sites..

Slightly OT, we are looking at going back to Cala D'or in July, last time we stayed at Tucan, any recommendations, we want to be close to the marina

I found Wiber to be a huge PITA.
Got a super cheap deal on a Ka+ once and arranged my own excess insurance which they wanted to sell me for 5 times the price.

There followed painful examination of the car for any scratch or blemish. I finally got out and found the "full tank" was half a tank. Late so I photographed it.

End of the week, I returned it and they made me wait for ages and ages while they queue-jumped those with their insurance. Then I have to deal with the missing half tank and why I had returned it with half a tank. They dragged this out forever and a further inch by inch examination of the car ensued.

Never again. All pre-Covid.
I am now going back to the Canaries as car hire remains reasonable despite the bumped up prices.

How was the tucan, we are there in september having sold our apartment a couple of years ago, a hotel will be a shock having had our own place.

Regarding the car hire, autosroig have an office near the airport with a free shuttle, vanrell, terrys and hiper have always been good options for us.

Its probably 4 years since we stayed, location was good, the breakfast was ok, evening meals not the best, but if you had an apartment i'm sure you have your favourites - for us it was waves and little tavern for places to pass the time.

Rooms were clean, balcony a odd shape, pool had lots of people turning themselves orange and there were lots of towels trying to catch some sun.

As a place to rest your head it was fine, Hotel Cala D'or is where i'm looking at.

Sounds ok, we won't eat in the hotel, lots of favourites to get back to and can't wait to get to the Little Tavern!

Hi, over the past three years we have stayed at Sa' Marina which is near to the marina. It's part of the Inturotel group. This hotel is also close to Cala d'Or town where all of the shops and restaurants are. Very clean and tidy but it only open for maybe 6 months per year.

Other places we've stayed at are Ona Village but that's in Egos, still only a 10 minute walk to the marina and over at Cala Esmeralda where it is predominantly Inturotel hotels - it's like a resort but based in a gorgeous little cove.
