Car hire Croatia

Wr are off to Croatia in the first week of Aug.

Car hire seems very expensive at circa £700 for a Golf or similar.

Is this just where we are in the world or does anybody know of a good option that they have used?

I used Luna Vectura at Split airport in 2016. No issues at all. Just had a quick look at it looks a bit cheaper but it will depend on which airport and exact days.

We are off to Split in a few weeks and I’m tempted to get a car for a day or two. What’s it like to drive over there? Last time we went to Croatia I didn’t pay much attention to road standards.

Honestly, the road conditions were about the same as north east England! The toll motorways were in my opinion worth the cost. They were very quiet and fast, good for going long distance if you don't mind missing out on scenery.

And definitely don’t miss out on the scenery if you have the time. Plitvice Lakes is to die for!

Have driven the length of the country on A/B roads, coincidentally in a Golf, and no problems at all. Just make sure the aircon is in tip top condition; you’ll need it in the height of the summer. Height of the summer sort of dictates costs too unfortunately.

I worked out there 20 years ago and this will be the first time back.

Will be interesting to see how the old places have changed.

I used Rentalcars.com in 2018 and drove from Dubrovnick to Split then Zadar then Plitvice and ended up in Pula. The roads were fine from what I remember, no problems.

Carwiz from split airport are good.

Sadly all costs are silly for hire cars this summer.

Lovely motorways. Well worth the tolls. Some driving standards are interesting though, especially on the A roads
