Curious experience at Antalya airport
Discussion
I had an intresting experience at Antalya airport last night with increased security checks, including swab tests etc and had a genuine WTF moment.
Rewinding slightly a few days earlier in a studid pool accident I've sprained or broken my little finger which resulted in me needing to have it strapped up with a bit of bandage and tape. Hurts a bit when I grip my pint glass but no real problems.
Departute day comes and we arrive at terminal with step one of checks where the cases get x-ray as soon as we enter the building, next check-in. We're travelling with friends so their cases go on the scales first, all passports and paperwork handed over. I then lift our cases onto the scales where the clerk notices my strapping and asks what I've done. Now we've had a long day and all week I've loved how friendly everyone we've met have been and I haven't twigged that I'm being examined rather than polite enquiry, what have I done; was it in Turkey; did I see a doctor; have I had an operation; have I had stiches. At this point our tickets and passports are held back and we are intructed to stand to one side "for a minute". All five of us look at each other and can't understand what is happening. Senior/ supervisor comes over and starts the questions again, has a close look at the strapping and than passes over the passports with a "enjoy your flight".
So, was this all a check to make sure I haven't had a couple of kg of something sewn into my finger or something else? Potentially I failed some attitude test because I was so dissmissive of the event and later treatment that was done at reception in the hotel.

Read your post twice.
Definitely an attitude problem on your behalf.
They acted normally, thank goodness.
Embrace the security, just chill out, smile and we can all be a lot safer, seven miles up there!
I agree. They have a job to do, your post came across badly and maybe added to the issue.Definitely an attitude problem on your behalf.

Probably just checking it's safe as things swell when you're in the air, especially fresh injuries. Swelling and a tight dressing/plaster etc can be a bad combination.
Good point, I didn't know that. If there had been a real concern would I have been sent to a med centre for re-dressing?Ebo100 said:

No idea TBH but I expect so, either that or a proper check. They'd expect a plaster cast to be cut open so it could expand.(I got a grilling coming home from my stag do with my wrist in plaster. It took a while to get the nice lady to understand it was a joke and I didn't have a fracture... It was also a massive pita to remove one handed with kitchen scissors. Wife to be was less than sympathetic and wouldn't help! )

I think you are both right, there was no problem on our behalf and I welcome the security (passports checked five times before we saw the plane) it was just a total suprise that there was intrest in what is a glorified plaster. In my defense that was no 'bolshy brit attitude' just I missed the intent of his questioning
A Glass or Ceramic blade could be covered by small dressing;)Quite a few years (well in the 80’s) I was travelling back from Norway with my mum, when we were pulled aside at the security check after her handbag went through the x-ray. She went to great lengths to explain that the packet of alpine plant cuttings wasn’t anything to worry about. They weren’t interested in the cuttings…but another memento in there….
She seemed surprised and couldn’t understand what the fuss was about and it got it’s own little box to go in the hold.
