I used Zest out of Paphos last September. £29 a day. Car was fine, bit of a dusty older one. Air con made a terrible noise. No real checks on collection or return. Certainly no scamming or hassle. Was met by a chap at arrivals, signed paperwork on the bonnet, and off.

www.rentalcars.com you will get a car from one of the major firms, FULLY insured, from £32 a day.
As always it’s the excess that can be a problem. Also you will find firms that are very laid back. Just hand over a car, it may have some petrol, it may have some dents and scratches, no checks on return. You pay the money and take a chance.

If your considering using Goldcar, google their reviews before you book

Forced to use goldcar before on business never again

I read the t&c of one it said your responsible for first 350 and then anything not covered by their insurance so I see them insuring 3rd party only with logbook loans on their cars wink

Goldcar are fine as long as you're sensible. Always buy excess insurance (not from them, but elsewhere) for about £20.

They don't look at the car too closely, either when handing it over or taking it back, which has it's pros and cons, and their cheapest rates are about £1.5 a day off season!

Indeed - I've used Goldcar in Spain for years. Go in with your eyes open and your own insurance.

Many years ago I got a hire car arranged by our Cyprus hotel. It was dirty, a few years old, but was very cheep. Out on the road it drove like a lizard, the tyres squealed going round corners. When I left I noticed the inside of the front tyres were worn to the canvass!!! The tracking must have been miles out, or something bent.

That was another thing in the t&C's up to the renter to make sure cars roadworthy! So you need to do your own mot;)

You need to man up tbh. I've rented from Goldcar so many times and as long as you are firm, and insured, it's fine. I'm fairly confident you are not obliged to MOT your hire car :-)

You got good advice from me - on the 1st reply. From Paphos, and zero hassle. I even searched my emails to check for you. T

Goldcar in Pisa was the worst car hire experience i ever had, but still, they didn't charge me, I was firm. They make ALL their money on 1 euro a day car hire on their insurance.

You must have the same one as me then!

I didn’t realize at first that the Speedo was in mph whilst I knew that the speed limits were in kph! Must have been an import.

I used these guys last time I went to Cyprus

https://stevenscarrentals.com/

Service was really good. They met us at the airport and did the handover there, then met us there for the return. Car was clean and reliable and was actually what I’d ordered.
