I have an annual multi-trip holiday insurance with Admiral. On the policy it say to advise them of any new medical conditions. Mrs S has just been diagnosed with breast cancer so phoned Admiral to advise them. "Thanks for letting us know. Your insurance is now cancelled." Is this normal?

Firstly, sorry to hear about the diagnosis, hope she has a good treatment plan in place,

For the Q: I would expect so as a condition such as your wife's would massively increase their risk exposure - probably beyond what they are able to actually provide cover for (especially if your coverage included 30+ days in the USA).

There are providers out there that will cover, but clearly they'll carry a hefty premium because of the risk profile increasing dramatically.

In reality for a lot of people who have or have had cancer its often too expensive to have coverage and resultantly travel without it at their own risk.

Thanks for the reply. Mrs S is having the cancer removed 9th May so fingers crossed it’s been caught early. Once She’s had the operation and any follow up treatment will She be able to get insurance or is She permanently black listed?

We had an expensive holiday organised when my dad became quite ill so I called LV=, who we’d had an annual policy with for years. They didn’t cancel the entire policy but I did get “thanks for telling us - anything related to that is excluded”.

Staysure seem to well thought of for travel insurance with pre-existing conditions - my wife is using them for a trip at the moment and she had a soft tissue sarcoma removed 3 mths ago.

Don't overthink it. Loads of companies will cover her, just not the bog basic ones like Admiral.

Hope everything goes well for your Mrs. thumbup

Thats good.

Yes she will definitely be able to get insurance - it'll just be a little more involved that the usual price comparison sites and a bit more expensive - that will reduce though as she gets the all clear and subsequent years of being clear pass too.

OP - I can't answer the insurance question but, just so you know, my mum had breast cancer in 1997. Since the initial radiotherapy and surgery, then reconstructive surgery, she has been fighting fit, without a hint of any further issues (touch wood) and is still going strong today.
