There was a fair bit of chat about Majorca/Mallorca in the "June sun in Europe?" thread earlier this week
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I've only ever stayed in Santa Ponsa as the in-laws have an apartment there, so can't help too much but Soller/Port de Soller were really nice but avoid taking the train between the two as it's a bit pointless and just goes alongside the road so you're not missing out on anything by driving!

All inclusive Hotels have killed all the nice small Restaurants and Bars off.

This.

If you have a car then you can also go to nearby Pollenca town and over the hills to Soller, Port de Soller (get the old train between those two) and Deia.

Alternatively look at Cala d'Or in south east if you want nice marina and beaches.

It depends where you stay, we stay at the back near the canal (Viva Sunrise) and its not bad, granted the bellvue area/strip is tacky but the beach and up by the Marina are much nicer and slightly less british. I would say the beach is great for kids. Pollenca is ok but the beach has nothing on Alcudia.

I'd suggest hiring a car. We are regulars and there is a lot to see but its all on the coast so you need to be mobile unless you are somewhere like Palma where theres a lot in a small area.

Agree on a car, we drove to Palma to the aquarium there one day when the weather was a bit iffy. Our daughter was just shy of her third birthday, which made it easier as we could just drive to places as we pleased, rather than waiting for a bus, airport transfers etc.

Another for Port de Pollenca, very nice laid back resort, get somewhere on Pine Walk and you can’t go wrong.

Theres only one place for me, Gods swimming pool aka Cala D'or. however, its not going to be warm enough imho.

I note you say you're going there as the flights are cheap, unfortunately the rest of your trip in Mallorca won't be it's relatively expense there especially the nice bits, however it is also extremely beautiful on the North West coast.

Personally I'd say stay in Soller in the Tramontana mountains it's beautiful and relatively quiet there and close to Port de Soller if you want a beach, if you have a hire car there's lots of great sites within an hours drive. I have a house in Fornalutx which is often quoted as the most beautiful village in Spain and only 10 mins by car from Soller, definitely worth a visit there too

Another vote for cala d'or, amazing marina and more options that aren't as expensive as the north west. If hiring a car go for autoroig or hiper.

Word of caution regarding the weather, being a small island weather in April could be poor. Had an apartment there for 15 years and in April you can get glorious sunshine for a week or cold and wet and everything in between!

Fabulous island and you can find lots of hidden gems with a car.

Loads of great places to stay and visit, definately need a car though. Last time, we stayed just outside Binnissalem (near Inca). Secluded and peaceful, but within driving distance of anywhere on the island
